Icons : Gran Turismo

They did both Motortoon Gran Prix and Omega Boost. Omega Boost was a cool PSX shooter, and I don't recall the Icons special mentioning THAT.

And they got the US GT release date wrong.

Wait..the dual shock was originally brought out for GT?

It came out at the same time, yes. But it was in mid-1998 in the US. Not December 1997.

?!

The first game I remember even using the features of it was Ape Escape.

Ape Escape used dual analog. The Analog PSX controller was out before the Dual Shock.

They released the analog pad in the US, and then later on discontinued it for the Dual Shock.

LOL I totally forgot about the GT2(98% competion, garage not saving certain cars after a certain amount) bugs. That was kind of a trip hearing it brought back up again.

I'm guessing because it's an Icons on the history of Gran Turismo?

The original "single shock" (larger handles, concave analog stocks, weaker vibration) dual-analog pad was released alongside Tobal 2 in Japan. Tobal 2 wasn't technically the first game to support it, though, as a few games were pre-programmed to support it way before it was out. Rally Cross is the only one I remember offhand, but I know there were others. It was always a nice surprise finding the feature hidden in earlier games!

Regardless, I'm pretty sure that they're right about GT being the game released alongside (and the first to fully utilize, with different levels/types of vibration) the dual shock, at least in Japan.

Dang, just missed it...I'll Tivo the replay tonite =)

FYI, there's this Japanese show which aired recently that covered the making of GT4 with a bunch of behind the scenes at Polyphony...the link where I downloaded it is down though (found it on the playstation.com forums), but it's like 45 minutes, 250MB. Was pretty interesting, though I couldn't really understand what everyone was saying. They even showed some of the of gifts/awards PD Presient Yamauchi received from various companies, like Nike (such as a die-cast model of thie Nike car in GT4, as well as some customized racing kicks).

Agreed, although they repeat too much. What happened to Pulse? I loved that show because it was set up like a newscast so at least they had up to date info each week.

AFAIK Pulse was rolled into The Screen Savers, they do pretty much the same game packages as before but now on a daily basis in TSS mixed in with some other tech crap.

There's been a thread about the Icons changing issue and I finally got a response from one of the producers on the forum.

I wouldn't worry about it. You guys tend to overreact. Icons is not changing. That was just a pr release sent out to talent agencies so that's why it was so narrowly focused.

You will however see more making of and documentary specials that branch out into different areas that shares the same time slot so that's why there was some confusion.

I think/hope he's talking about that crappy "G4 Specials" show which is made by the same Icons team and is hopefully, why the pr people made that statement. That producer, RoyalTramp is a pretty cool and decent guy who's always been straighforward with the fans so I'll give him the benifit of the doubt for now and just pray this is for real.
