id announces Quake Wars

Looks and sounds cool... but after skimming the article I didn't see mention of it being free to download and play like the original Enemy Territory. Am I missing something or is this 'insider' info?

Looks great!

Wow, AWESOME news. I could use more objective based shooters. Given the developer, well, I think that's very likely. I'm very interested.

If this isn't kosher then please delete and have pity on a poor soul :D

id Software and Activision today announced Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, a new strategic shooter by Splash Damage (Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory). The game pits humans vs invading Strogg forces, as they battle for control of Earth. Quake Wars promises strategic gameplay, persistent character promotions, day and night-time battles, and vehicle support. It's also mentioned that Quake Wars is powered by id Software's new MegaTexture rendering technology.
As the invasion begins, players choose to battle as one of five unique classes in either the EDF (Earth Defense Force -- humans) or the barbaric alien Strogg armies, each augmented with specialist weapons and combat hardware. Troops utilize over 40 conventional and futuristic vehicles, deployable structures, and defense systems like quad-bikes, tanks, and alien walkers for epic ground assaults; or helicopters and anti-gravity ships to lend firepower from the air. Throughout each battle, teams establish bases, deploy defense structures, artillery, radar, and advanced forward-command systems into enemy territory while constructing and demolishing obstacles to speed progress and gain a tactical advantage over the enemy.
No word on this being another free download or not, and no release date is mentioned either. Update: the Splash Damage website mentions this is a full game.

It's a FULL-PRICED game.

I still can't believe the features - 40 vehicles, team chat, deployable turrets, awesome bumpmapping and shadowing on a big-ass maps... maybe even 64-player MP?

...time to upgrade my "old" PC!

Q4 doesn't interest me at all but this makes me happy as a longtime Quake fan. Wonder what engine it's running on, looks different from the usual Doom 3 look.
