Idaho poised to pass "anti-gay bill"

I don't even know what to say.

The first of Idaho’s anti-gay bills is a close copy of Kansas’. Under the guise of “free exercise of religion,” any private employer or business may refuse service to gay people—not just gay couples, but any individual whom a business owner suspects to be gay.

But the second proposed bill goes much, much further than that... The new bill explicitly revokes any municipal LGBT anti-discrimination statutes by allowing individuals with “sincerely held religious beliefs” to simply ignore them with impunity. A city ordinance banning housing or employment discrimination for gays, the bill holds, would be void, for it would “burden a person’s exercise of religion.”

Then comes the second bill’s sledgehammer, the section that could bring Idaho deep into a realm of discrimination not seen in the United States since the darkest days of racial segregation. Again in the name of “free exercise of religion,” the bill forbids any “occupational licensing board or government subdivision” to “deny, revoke or suspend a person’s professional or occupational license” if they deny service to gay people.

Under the bill, a doctor may refuse to treat gay people and be protected from losing his license—even if the American Medical Association requires nondiscriminatory treatment... A schoolteacher or college professor can openly order gays out of her classroom—even if her school has a policy of equality... Banks and law firms will be forbidden from requiring LGBT inclusiveness.

As an Idahoan, I'm happy. This will get smacked down by the first federal court that looks at it, and our state will be better for it.

So, the Hippocratic Oath doesn't exist anymore?

I'm trying really hard to get angry, but it's Idaho. Who would want to live there anyway? Anything that gets more people out of that shitty state is probably a good thing.

Idaho is fucked up. Like, don't slow down or deviate at all from major highways. Get to Silverwood and fucking stay put.

Why do we even have Idaho?

No way that could wrong "hum those black dudes kind of look gay, just exercising my religious rights"

Won't last a second in Federal. This is laughable, and a waste of taxpayer dollars. Keep up the shitty work, conservative "religious freedom" protectors. You're actually making the battle easier to win.

*sigh*

I don't even know what to say about this, it just seems so ridiculous.

I love the vacuum they live in. I'm fairly sure this law is a reaction to the 'Add The Words' protests going on in Boise right now.
They don't realize that by swinging so far the other direction they are going to lose everything.

Why the FUCK should the government care about 2 men blowing each other in the privacy of there own home. This feels unconstitutional.

It's just crazy.....I mean not every religion is anti gay for one. And how is it ok to protect people's religious right to discriminate???

I don't recall anywhere in the bible that you are suppossed to shun sinners. From my understanding in Christianity at least we are ALL sinners and the act of gay sex is not one of those deadly sins so I don't see even under this crazy bill how people being gay near religious people equals religious people can't practice their faith??

It's really sad.

Federal? State judges should be calling them and saying "you know what guys, you're a bunch of idiots"

But we shouldn't talk so bad of conservative's if we can't bring equal negative stories in the same thread about liberals. Quick someone post something about soda taxes before we get yelled at (or the spanking bill)

That's a waste of the sperms!

It's likely that will happen, this nanny state trying to impose taxes on non necessity items as a way to help the populace make healthier decisions. This is America where we don't want no taxes.

Who in the legislature do we need to email/call/text/Facebook/tweet about this crap? I'm talking about both Kansas and Idaho. These fuckers read that stuff believe it or not.

That applies to Catholics. These are Evangelicals calling the shots. It's missionary or nothing with these people.

You're seeing the death throes of the anti-gay movement. All this is going to do is make this hit the SCOTUS, but its not going to happen until after Scalia's a goner.

Fuck, that's right. I'll revise my statement to say it's a waste of the moral obligation that God Almighty gave all men to not do the sex with men in whatever hole they want.

To a degree. They look for compelling stories that suit their needs. Also, lobbing messaging at them means that the good shit gets lost in the shuffle. They avoid astroturf, and they think they know it when they see it.

Think of this like Mississippi in 1962. This is a last ditch blow against the tide of history and it will ultimately come to nothing. In a way it's a positive sign.

Based on that sentence alone, there is NO WAY this will pass, and even if it somehow does it will be smacked down by any federal court in 2 seconds. Get the fuck out of here Idaho.

This is fucked up and they know it.

Yes, do it. The more you struggle, the faster you assholes will lose the war. At worse it will just build more contempt for the GOP. Nothing stops this trainbow.
