IGN BATTLE: Granborismo 4 vs Flopza

apparently Graphics are more important than AI and multiplayer. Actually from what i played of forza i think they were being generous. Its odd they didnt mention the FPS difference...or i didnt notice them mention it as i was skimming through.

i bow down before polyphony for their graphical quality on ps2, it outshines everything else.
THey should do the RE4 port for capcom :D

"Gran Borismo." As much as I love the series, I can't be the only one that laughed at that. "Flopza" did nothing for me though...too easy.

All I know is that the demo of Forza that is out know is uncompelling, but given that it has a few months to cook, maybe it will turn out differently, although I doubt it.

Basically, GT4 seems to be GT3 + more tracks + more cars. Pretty good in my book as the gameplay and controls are spot on. No online sucks the big one and the ability to bounce off of other cars and walls is still there.

I'd expect GT4 to get mid 8's in most reviews as it hasn't really changed the formula from 2001, which was preonline console gaming and that just doesn't meet the minimum requirements any more. I know that Kaz won't do it unless it's superior quality, but it's still missing.

it weird IGN makes it out that the actual racing is better in forza while the graphics and selection of cars are better in GT4....so Graphics > Gameplay?

Yea the forza demo flat out sucked.

How is the GT4 gameplay spot on? the AI sucks which makes the actual racing mediocre IMO.

First off...Forza's latest demo is a build from last year actually. Second..you cant compare a complete/finished game with one that is not finished lol. Im suprised IGN was so hastly ready to compare a finished game to a incomplete game...lol i guess that just tell's how how IGN does its thang :)

I get a kick out of people that like to judge from a demo or a game that is months from being complete...funny

The AI is fine, IMO. As much as you can say for any racer. The cars take great lines, which would be fine except for the fact that they don't react well to you. Forza, as well as every other racer out there, has the exact same problem. Cars don't try to box you in, block you, or anything else that a real driver would do.

Gran Turismo isn't a racing game. It's a "driving" game, whatever the hell that's supposed to be, heh. Too bad it's still a glorified car collector.

who are oyu kidding most other racers the AI cars manage to atleast move a bit when you are passing GT cars just take the Exact SAME line each and every race no matter waht the condition. No matter how much you gloss it over the AI in GT games has always been shit.

I think we all know what it means and it's still the best description. The precision and technique required for a GT game goes beyond any other "driving" or "racing" game out there, by a HUGE fucking margin. If you're looking for a "racer", you've got the wrong game. If you want a game that rewards skill and really immerses you in the intricacies of a cars performance and handling, GT is teh SHIT.

That being said, it's still a hell of a racing game, but in the end, the racing is mediocre compared to the rest of the game's focus.

I know it's fun to blast GT as it's been set up as the end-all-be-all racing game, which is a big mistake, IMO. This is not a game for everybody and I'd bet a good percentage of people HATE THIS GAME. Just like some people hated Stuntman or even Tony Hawk.

If you don't truly appreciate perfection (that is, you hate having to be perfect) and you hate learning a ton of techniques, this game is going to suck for you big time. However, if you have the time and the inclination, there is no game in existance that will reward you more.

All, IMO, of course ;)

GT is about driving interesting real life cars fast. It's as simple as that. The game has wide appeal because it has the biggest list of realistically recreated interesting cars.

It's lots of fun racing against the clock, especially when you're driving a car that you actually have an interest in (with hundreds, there's something for everyone). I guess it could be likened to going for a high score in any other genre.

I tried really hard to get into the Forza demo that came with MA2 but I couldn't bring myself to have any positive reactions from it.

The game looks great and some of the subtle touches like the smoke from drifting look amazing (I'm really fond of the lighting), however, I don't find it fun.

Gran Turismo is fun. I won't knock either of them as being simulators but from the looks of things, Forza is *pure* simulation.

The only thing flopza has going for it is its online, magical physics and sounds. Granborismo physics and sounds are bollocks.

Enthusia looks to have even better physics than Flopza.

Yes, it is fun to race against yourself. But this is Gran Turismo FOUR. Don't you think they maybe should have fixed the AI by now, mashout?

Thats like asking SSX if Konami needs to fix the controls in silent hill.

It's fucking ridiculous. I can understand that time trials in a realistic racer ARE fun, and adding new tracks, new cars, updating graphics, all that stuff does make it a great, great game.

But rolling over when it comes to the AI and bumper car issue DOES make you look like SSX.

The AI isn't terrible. The problem is that the game doesn't prevent you from creating an unfair advantage. I've tried playing the game fairly, and the AI always put up a good fight -- but I got greedy, and I wanted to totally rice my car out as much as possible, and that's when GT4's AI just crumbles. It's all up to the gamer...if you're someone who's going to whine about AI, then don't over mod your car; keep it on level with every one else.
