December 13, 2004 - Wow. On a recent visit to BioWare's office in Edmonton, Canada, I discovered a few things that really amazed me. First, that people can actually live someplace that gets that cold. Second, that a mall can have a full-blown casino inside. And third, that Jade Empire, BioWare's highly-anticipated martial arts RPG, is even better than I expected. This wasn't the first time I'd seen Jade, nor the second time either. I'd experienced the combat system before, heard all the talk about how the role-playing elements were being improved, and already knew it was graphically superior to Knights of the Old Republic. Still, after playing through the first hour of Jade, I was still surprised at just how good it is.

After an hour with Jade, I can't wait for another 60-100, playing through multiple times with different characters, taking different moral paths to see where they lead. If the rest of Jade is anything like the first hour, BioWare has an early contender for GOTY 2005.

I just hope the framerate is somewhat decent. Also, kinda sucks that character creation is limited to just 5 characters. Oh well, some choice is better than no choice.

Sounds like they are taking the Pan-Asian influence very seriously. Lord I hope it's an atleast respectful and educational combination of ideas. Not just a typical western love-fest for all things Asian.

man, i can hardly wait for this title. it's everything i've ever wanted in an RPG and hot dang, this baby is on the top of my list of most anticipated. it's even creeping into my most anticipated EVER list!

December 13, 2004 - Wow. On a recent visit to Visual Concept's office in Bumtown, USA, I discovered a few things that really amazed me. First, that people can actually live someplace that gets that fat. Second, that a mall can be powered by an energy source not coming from another country. And third, that NFL2K6, Visual Concept's highly-anticipated football sim, is CANNED LIKE A MOFO. This wasn't the first time I'd seen NFL2K6, nor the second time either. I'd experienced the pass rush before, heard all the talk about how the play calls were being improved, and already knew it was graphically superior to Madden 2005. Still, after playing through the first hour of 2K6, I was still surprised at just how good it is. Too bad it's dead now. Dead like America's economy.

Since the founders are highly educated doctors... I would assume that they did their homework in order to properly present a somewhat accurate (it is a video game of course) representation of the Asian "mythological" characters.

I said this in another thread, but I'll say it again here. Jade Empire is my most anticipated game of all time. I have never looked forward to playing a game like I have this one.

edit: I thought the premise of the game was based more on Japanese characters.

cool stuff, i like these first hour things, you can read 'em without spoiling the game and you still get loads of new info.

I got a chance to spend to spend some time with this game at this year's GenCon and talked withthe Bioware reps. This game is shaping up to be something truly special. Those who are hooked on the classic Japanese style RPGs are probably going to complain, but the art direction, game engine and combat system have to be seen to believed. You can tell Bioware is putting some serious time and qulaity into this game and they want it to be something special. Trust me when I say this game is not KotoR with an Asian mythology theme. I had blast playing what little parts they had available and was sold since that day. I think I have pics posted in another forum. If I can I'll try to search the link.

The talk in this thread gives me flashbacks to the disappointment Fable was for me. I hope this game doesn't get hyped too much.
