IGN: Mario 64 vs Mario DS : Video Head to Head

This was posted by Olimario earlier, I believe.

Playing the DS version, I really was turned off by the lack of filtering and the colors all semed very dull. Watching the head-2-head, I realize I was suffering from a bit of nostalgia-colored glasses. While the N64 version is still brighet and less "pixely", I have to say the DS version is quite a bit improved.

For a remake of an 8 year old game that I'm sure was rushed to meet the DS launch, Mario 64 DS's visuals are impressive. Everything (outside of the filtering) just seems so "clean" (please, no Mario Sunshine jokes) and the framerate is outstanding.

When G4 was doing their 'Nintendo DS Day' thing and had their television feed split (showing their shows on top and Nintendo DS gameplay on the bottom) there was a bit of time where a demo of Mario 64 DS and their Mario Icons show with Super Mario 64 footage were playing at the same time. Mario 64 DS stood out a bit IMO.

I put it back up. My other PC, the one I do not reset, has a dead HDD. The uptime onthis hub would not be perfect. GAF DC Hub: hideos.mine.nu:1090

Watched this earlier today, and I must say that I´m kinda impressed what they did with most of the graphics in this Game. The most important thing for me is a steady framerate, and yes...I´m satisfied enough.

One thing though:
When Nintendo showed of Metroid Prime: Hunters at E3, I was kinda surprised over the 60 fps...and now the demo (bundled) version runs about 30 fps right? I haven´t played it myself though, but why does Nintendo always have to do this? It was the same with Super Mario Sunshine.
So are there any chances that Metroid Prime: Hunter will reach up to 60 fps again, when the final version is released?

BTW, you fuckers all lied to me, Mario 64 is NOT 60fps on the DS.

(It's okay tho because at least it's steady, unlike the slowdown-prone N64 one)

I said so in the other thread, guess you overlooked my post. I also seemed to be the only one to be pissed because I could have sworn more than one source claimed the game was 60fps when it absolutely is not.

I'm pretty sure Metroid Hunters is a rock solid 60, Mario is upwards of 30fps though not a full 60 for some reason...

Whatever moron redesigned the Thwomps might have been thinking "oh boy, it looks like it did in Mario 3!" but forgot that you're not supposed to be able to stand on things with SPIKES.

okay, ive got the software, i logged into the hub. now what do i do? where are the files?

alright i give up. now its just says the connection is refused by target machine.

sigh.

i went to all the trouble to get logged into the "hub" only to find out its a 100mb file. Oh well.

All i really want to see are the screencaps...

I like how they made a special long-format QT for the comparision. DS looks better than I thought it would. If that's how SM64x4 looks by default on the DS screens; it looks pretty damn good. Wow. Impressed (must say I've not seen many DS movies in motion since the TOUCH even Nintendo vidz)

Yah. When I first saw one, I was wondering how I was supposed to stand atop it to get the red coin...

shit, you can stand on those? I knew there was something wrong with that land, but I couldn't work it out. My years of exposure to Mario and 'the rules of gaming' meant I ignored the spiky thwomp....

Your hero, Shigeru Miyamoto, redesigned them HIMSELF.

How do you feel now, huh?!!!111
