IGN Off the Record (Xbox 2 Focused)

Talking about Cracking the Whip! Damn. I hope external dev teams are porting it.

But on the flip side, wouldn't the graphics reek of last-generation?
Why would that follow? You could say that about any next-gen sequel.

I'm pretty sure that EA already confirmed like 4 games on or around the Xenon launch.

Don't ask me where I heard that, cuz it was a long ass time ago.

And what Namco game are they talking about? Ridge Racer?

is anyone actually surprised that EA milks all their titles at launch? I am not. They'll make a good buck out of it. It's not like they will wait another 6-12 months for ps3.

duh? all their sports games at launch? far from "duh".
EA releases all their sports games on every system they support. The only sports game that I wasn't expecting for the XBOX 2 launch was MVP Baseball 2005 since the season would already be over.

I'm just saying that on a system of Next Generation proportions I hope they spruce it up. On the next-generation systems the Image Quality of this generation will most likely look horrible in comparison. The lighting of this generation vs even the most low budget next gen titles would be embarassing to the current crop of consoles. (I remember some dev saying they're 32MB away from extremely realistic lighting and skinning on the Xbox)

If the reports are to be believed, the Xenon is being 'built' for 720p displays, like the Xbox to 480p. Even if EA were to base the Madden '06 Xenon port off of the Xbox version, it would be embarassed by even Midway if Midway were to make Blitz for the Xenon, using even a minutia of what it is capable of (Tech-wise).

Seeing that EA will likely not make very special accomodations for the Xenon while the last generation of consoles is still very active, I fear for EA ports.

Well, this should be big news around HERE.

I seem to recall almost daily threads for a while about how doomed Xenon was for launching early. Biggest mistake evar, no one will spend the resources to support it as the sole next-gen console, everybody was going to wait for Sony before getting on board, the Sony hype machine spelled certain death, bla, bla, etc.

I don't think EA can afford to just use the PS2 as the baseline version for the Xenon. They will have HUGE competition from Sega/Take-Two, who will likely make Xenon their lead platform. The beginning of a generation would probably be the perfect time for Sega/Take-Two to steal marketshare from EA.

Yes, but where are you coming up with the assumption that they will just do a straight port of a previous-gen game?? Yeah, EA are lazy greedy bastards, but they're not THAT stupid.

For all the know it alls. The latest OXM claimed that EA might not bring their sports games on the Xbox 2 the first year. So it was news to me, and good news to hear too.

As a fan of EA's games (Not the company :P) and Microsoft's consoles, I most certainly HOPE they do not perform the aforementioned sin against gamers by doing a last-gen port to a next-gen system. I don't exactly remember Madden '02 PS2 vs PS1, but I remember them upgrading it a bit on the PS2, but when the Xbox and GC rolled around, they made no specific tweaks, and the Xbox version IIRC performed worse and looked worse in areas (Aside from IQ)

I for one will be surprised if there are true next gen versions of EA's sports franchises ready for next fall. That's a lot of work to do in a pretty short period of time. They can just wait, sell millions of copies on Xbox/PS2/GCN and make PS3 the lead development platform for the next gen.

My guess would be that Madden and maybe NBA Live will see substantial upgrades, with any other EA Sports game near launch looking rather unimpressive. We'll see.

Woohoo! Loads of displacement mapping for everyone!! Just imagine how realistic those graphics will be! Too bad I'm not into (realistic) sports games. Now, if a new Road Rash is in the works...

Did you ever pay RR 3D? Screw all the fighting, just bring me MotoGP 3... which will be a Xenon launch title.
