IGN on Kameo

"And like those infomercials, that's not all…I also got a chance to check one more remarkable feature showcasing the 360's hardware performance. In the past, you may recall how difficult it was for a game console to feature multiple objects on screen at once. But thanks to Rare's proprietary Artificial War Engine, Kameo can pull this feat off without breaking a sweat. With this powerful graphics tool, it's actually possible for a bevy of active characters to be on screen during any given time. Just how many you ask? Try a thousand. Poor Kameo, being outnumbered decided to call upon her friends to aid her - a thousand elves, to be exact. To illustrate a proper reference, think of the hordes of orcs that Aragon and company went against in The Return of the King.
And this is just an alpha running at 30% folks. So just imagine how much more impressive the game will be when it's completed? Based on what I glimpsed today, Kameo: Elements of Power is shaping up to be one of 360's solid titles. "

That video is on xboxyde, it's AMAZING. I'm floored. So confused about what is going on, totally felt bummed about E3 but now all these videos and impressions are coming out of nowhere.

That technique is geometry instancing, not some Rare voodoo. I expect it to be the next lens flare..everyone will be doing it since it looks impressive (at least at first glance) with not a tonne of work.

Yeah. Whoever heard of switch and bait?

Anyway, it'll only be a matter of minutes before the positive PS3 gameplay impressions start pouring in....

...oh wait, that's right...

:lol

These threads are sooo much quieter when the 360 news is positive.

Killzone is real time and is a true Halo 3 killer!!!111!!!!

Heh,yea it is peaceful in these threads when there isn't anything negative to say :P

I wouldn't say owned, but there's going to be a shift in momentum - if not in actual perception, then in information.

Who the fuck cares about Kameo. You don't see people complaining that the new Kirby game thread isn't hitting 1000 pages. Games like Halo 3 and Zelda, their threads will be huge, positive or not.

I guess you have a point. I really dont care much about the game either. but I do remember plenty of attention in the screen comparison thread(s).

Saw the video. Very beautiful, but I can't get hyped on this game, it looks so cheesy. I can't believe that this game is shaping up nicely, while PD0 is languishing. Fuck Kameo, I want mah impressive PD0 :(

To be fair, there isn't really much to say here based on the quote that was posted.

So...it can throw lots of enemies on screen. That's pretty neat.

I dont think its "who cares about kameo", moreso about the willingness of people to trash a company and then when they are proven wrong they dont show up to eat humble pie.

The game looks incredible but the character design really is horrendous:

Where are actual impressions? Yeah, so what, the final Kameo will have thousands and thousands of orcs and elves on screen at once. Does that affect gameplay? All I see are those creatures engaging themselves or being idly runover by Kameo's horse. The footage of Kameo on foot during the battle doesn't show any of those thousands of characters pay her any mind. None of the videos I've seen actually display anything that would even approach engaging to the player. It's all running through environments, morphing and showing large amounts of characters that don't seem to do anything of interest.

This game reeks of current generation gameplay (at best) with some random next-gen features thrown in that are of little consequence, and let's face it, in many ways that's what Star Fox Adventures suffered from.

Actually IT DOES! Moreso than a pretty coat on a character.

I'm not getting why people think the "positive" news items should be as popular as the negative ones. "That game sounds on par with what one would have expected from the 360 a week ago" does not make people talk. Disasters are just more interesting.

First:

Why is this sentance a question? Is he uptalking?

So just imagine how much more impressive the game will be when it's completed?

And:

Kameo had some killer gameplay last year. The combo system they cooked up, built around Kameo's ability to hot-switch between four characters at the drop of a hat, was pretty fun to play. If they don't screw up the controls that felt nearly perfected last year, they're going to have a great game on their hands.

Fine.

This is exactly, almost word for word, what I was thinking. Freaky.
