I'm calling it! Loco Roco = PSP GOTY

Oichi

I'm like a Hadouken, down-right Fierce!
This is probably THE best game on the show floor at TGS right now. Totally simple, extremely fun to play, and with an awesome design to it.

Uh, yeah. That's it.

What is it with the Loco Roco thread starters writing a line and then proclaiming 'that's it' and leaving?

I WONT BUY THE GAME unless you bring us valuable info+pics or whatever.

WORLD EXCLUSIVE: FIRST LOCO ROCO SCREEN.

If someone would please host this on somewhere else when they get a chance, because TTB will fucking kill me.

THIS IS IN GAME...

this was easily the playable game of the show!!

so cute, so simple, so fun. you only use L and R. you rotate the environment instead of controlling the character. hold down L and R and release together to jump. simple, fun, cute, innovative...PSP?!?!

world end supernova

This game is 5 times the game Kirby will ever be!

.... I dont trust you people, i was already burned buying a DS for Kirby. Man if only it had a tilt sensor then I would buy it on priciple alone whatever happened to that for the psp anyway. :( I am getting a psp soon anyway for its rpg's but still not sold on this game :/

Yeah, but i had like the same exact feeling i got from kirby ds videos. I dont know what to do, i seem to be having more fun with low scoring games as of late. WTF is wrong with me? *cries*

by the way, I am not being sarcastic and overpraising a just-okay game, this was the playable game of the show and a lot of journos agreed~~

Is this game a puzzle type(like mario vs donkey kong) or a platformer(kirby ds)?

It's a platformer like DK Jungle Beat, where you use a non-standard "hands-off" control scheme to manuever the character to the end of the environment. It looks SO clean and nice, and the "feel" of the rolling is really fun and natural.

Here is the entire control scheme:
L button - rotate environment left
R button - rotate environment right
press L+R, release - jump (length held determines height of jump)

of course jumping while the screen is rotated gives you some forward momentum.

One last thing; you can tap X quickly to break into little locorocos (as seen in the video). You do that at tunnel points when he's frowny so you can fit through. On the other end you hold down X until he reforms.

You eat fruit as you go through the level that increases your size. When you get hit, little locorocos sprout off that you can QUICKLY recapture to maintain your size. It's basically like Jungle Beat x Katamari x A Boy and His Blob. It's awesome!!!!1

I second this GOTY prediction and I haven't even played it yet. This is totally the next Katamari/Parappa/Vib Ribbon must-have import. Mark me down as on-the-bandwagon from day one!

NOW this is a game that would make me buy the PSP. Not some downgraded PS2 game but an actually quirky little game. These are the games that I use my handhelds for.

Bring a couple of more of this Sony (although that Pikmin-esque game seems good too) and you got yourself another customer.

That does look really nice and interesting just from looking at it.

Someone should post the demo of this that was downloadable there!!

O. not X. :P

This is my game of the show as well. It rocks. The fact that one of my boyfriends worked on this game doesn't make me a single bit biased at all.

This is NOT a demo that saves to the memory stick, Sony removed that functionality in 2.0 firmware anyway. Once you turn off the PSP it disappears forever...

...until you buy a copy of the game

this was called by several of us before the show.

It was the Game of the show by some way and it's what the PSP desperately needs - NEW exclusive content.

Seriously, if Nintendo had made this people would be going crazy - but this is sony, and god damn , so cute, so different, so deliciously simple yet beautiful.

Awesome AWESOME stuff.

there was a snes game that worked a lot like this wasnt there? its name escapes me...

Are you sure you are not thinking of that pos yoshi's topsy turvy for the gba? This looks 100X better than it and I am not even interested in this game anymore.

Looks like Gish meets Yoshis Universal Gravitation. Would have been better with some sort of tilt sensor though, but interesting nonetheless.

I doubt it'll make it outside Japan though, too much revolutionary thinking and not enough racing game for Sony I bet.

No one cares if sony doesnt release it state side, the beauty of the psp is that it's NOT REGIONAL.

or bugaboo as it was called on spectrum (see above)

Great - I thought I was going sligthly mad. It has got to be Booga-Boo (or bugaboo) inspired. Even the artwork is familiar. :)

Good call Reno. This was such a refreshing antidote to all the uber-violence 'splode mayhem at TGS - a totally unthreatening game! It reminds me of the Barbafamily actually. There is a lot of diversity to the gameplay so far, but the creator tells me a lot more is planned before release. The final version should feature a ton of AI Locorocos with their own specific behaviors on top of the player-controlled one. How all this will work is beyond me right now, but the game is great as-is - it should only get better.

it's not
and it isn't.

the art work is more Barbarawhachamacallit crossed with Rimocorokon, and i doubt any of the japanese staff got to play Boogaboo (which is lacking several mechanics that this game has)

It may not be inspired by, but it is reminiscent of... what with two button control (left and right jump in bugaboo) and hopping from level to level...

Whatever, i like the look of this game (and bugaboo was always too hard for me anyway - don't think i ever got more than 3 levels off the ground)

I'm well aware of that, but Sony is making everything they can to prevent people from importing from Japan. Playasia doesn't ship PSP items to Europe anymore for example.
