Seriously, if I'm going to use the computer in a few hours or first in the morning - I just put it to sleep. Otherwise, I turn it off.

I just walk away and it goes to sleep in 30 min. I hate having to reopen apps and whatever else is running.

Way back when I’d leave them running.

But I haven’t done that for many years. Any modern PC takes longer at the BIOS screen than it does actually booting up. My motherboard lets me disable/bypass the BIOS so I basically just hit the power button and I’m in instantly.

turn off, far are the days of keeping the pc turned on for a week to download mp3 and pixelated porns with kazaa and emule and a slow ass internet connection...

I leave it on most of the time for work reasons, and I usually use it to play youtube or audiobooks while I sleep. Electricity bill for it here in California is painful though.

Shut it down and turn it off at the plug. Same with my sky box and multi sockets, basically anything with an LED that will annoy me gets switched off.

It just always makes me think I’m wasting money even if it’s £0.000001
That's some old skool thinking, I'm 50 and my parents do that thinking they're saving money, just embrace the ever watchful unblinking red light that sees all and somehow lights up and entire room

I used to always shut down and unplug but since I moved to AMD the boot times got longer. It’s about 1 min 40 secs if I remember correctly. I think it’s something to do with the DDR5 memory and I have 64GB of it.

Now I put it to sleep all the time. If I’m not going to be using it for a few days then I’ll shut it down.

Same for my MacBook. It always goes to sleep. The way I see it is I don’t shut down my iPhone every night or when I’m not using it so why should I do that with my MacBook?
This doesn't seem right at all

it's a common thing on Zen 4 systems with DDR5 and not everyone has 64GB RAM so it might take longer. I think they do memory training on each boot. there is a setting that disables it but it can cause instability.
That still seems awfully high. It takes mine maybe 15 seconds to power on to Windows login screen with training. Do you have the latest bios update? Mine seemed that slow on older bios versions. Motherboard could make a difference here.

I looked into it and at most people say a 40-60 seconds with overclocked memory profiles enabled. It might be worth looking into it some more, you could probably half those boot times.

I hibernate.

Started a few years ago and I just freakin love it.

That's not very good if you're using an SSD. Especially when almost all consumer SSDs use bottom of the barrel NAND in terms of durability.

It was pretty much required when HDDs were the norm, but at least writing to them caused very little wear.

Soodanim Soodanim i just timed it. it takes 52 seconds on q-code 15 then it takes another 42 seconds to boot into windows. so total 1m 34 secs

according to the motherboard manual q-code 15 is "Pre-memory System Agent initialization is started"

shut down is 7 seconds.
From some Googling it seems that it's all related to memory overclocks are a common factor.

Apparently Memory Context Restore doesn't play well with memory overclocks, so that's something you'd have to choose between.

Also I've seen people say disabling EXPO speeds up boot times too.

Of course I'd definitely look into it more before trying anything.

I still can't find any boot times like yours though, even those that say 40 seconds with code 15 only wait another 15 seconds tops to get into Windows.

Link 2 in this Reddit post has a video about it

I leave it running but the monitors turn off after 5 minutes.

Sleep for me on my work computer. I always have 5-15 different documents on the go so it’s just easier. For my gaming pc I shut it down.

I'd just put it to sleep, but I have to press the power button to wake the bitch up anyway, so I just shut it down.

I walk away like a fucking boss, and leave that cunt to think about what it’s done.
The pieces of shit are made stronger now anyways
Shut down because I'm old school and cheap and my computer boots in seconds.
I've had issues with sleep and hibernate in Windows. I've never not shut it down with or without fast storage. I just feel better and can wait the short time while it boots up. I usually go and do something else anyways or when I'm on the road I use the magic packets 🍭

I put it to sleep. Just because I'm done for the day doesn't mean I done working on whatever I was working on.
