I'm getting physically ill playing Half Life 2

On XBOX...

Jesus Christ... this game looks like utter garbage compared to the PC version. It doesn't even look like the same game to me.

On a different note, I don't generally get sick while playing FPS games but I started to feel a little under the weather after playing Half Life 2 for an hour or two. Possibly due to the framerate? Does anyone else ever get motion sickness playing FPS games?

You're weak. And the game is a very, very good approximation of the PC game's visuals at a low-medium setting. The framerate is only really bad in a few areas, but it's not so bad it affects the gameplay, IMO. Also, if you're used to better settings on the PC version, why the hell are you bothering with the XBOX version, anyway? Bladeforce on the 3DO was the only game that really got me physically ill from the camera and framerate.

Half-Life 2's Field of View is a bit more narrow than other games. You can change it on the PC version to a more natural one.

I've only seen it run on someone elses uber PC. My computer won't even run HL2 at the lowest settings.

The game kind of reminds me of Skies of Arcadia in the fact that the spaces 10 feet in front of you progressively start to look blurrier and blurrier.

The only effect it's having on me is making me want to upgrade my PC.....I can technically play it on high settings, but my poor system lags every 5 seconds or so (1.3ghz w/ 256mb of rimm FTL)

My friend was gloating to me about how amazing Half Life 2 was on Xbox. Having a PC capable of running the game at max settings with 60 fps, I was very very skeptical of his claims of how great it looked.

He showed it to me at a party, and I was pretty impressed by how much it was like the PC version. The graphics definitely looked worse, for sure, but he had it on his 50 inch HD TV and I wasn't close to vomiting like I expected I would be.

The only thing that blew me away was the sound- he has a great home theater sound setup. There's definitely a draw to playing games in a comfortable home theater setting rather than on a computer, unless you've got some crazy set up to allow PC gaming in a home theater setup.

Also, that whole blurry spot 10 feet in front of you is the only bad memory I have of Skies of Arcadia... now it feels like one of those flaws that only make you love something more... ahhhh skies of arcadia....

I agree, it's a great port. Don't forget, Xbox has a 733mhz CPU and 64MB RAM.

But aiming is too easy IMHO, perhaps I should play it on hard.

I get a sick feeling every now and then when playing FPS games on console and PC. I tend to find this more so when I have not been sleeping or eating well or have worked long hours in front of the PC.

Condemned on X-Box 360 got me sick and the FPS Jedi game on X-Box got me sick...

Those two I really remember got me sick, I cannot play FPS for about 5 years or so... since I turned 30, FPS get me sick! WEIRD?

It sucks getting old, so now when I see a FPS... I just say "FPS's suck" and don't blame on my weak stomach and headaches...

What what what? How do you change it on the PC? I gave up up mid-way playing through it for the 2nd time because i'm not a big fan of nausia. Do you mean switching to a widescreen resolution?

you type in a CVAR command for field of view in either your cfg file or autoexec.cfg

basicaly just set it to 100 and youll be fine

The game that literally made me want to puke with motion sickness was Shadows of the Empire on the N64. The sewer level. It starts out with a circular flyby in a sewer. UGH I get sick just thinking about it.

I remember Turok 2 on the N64 in high-res mode making my eyes hurt a whole lot if I played it for too long. It was like playing a damn cartoon flipbook.

The motion sickness simulator. The first and only game that I actually felt a little dizzy while playing.

The hoverboat sequences made me extremely dizzy, it took me two weeks to get through that segment. I think it was because of the claustrophobic view and the extreme bouncing, but it was a pain through.

I've never been motion sick otherwise

I can play most FPS games for several hours, but HL1 and 2 makes my stomach churn. I don't have this problem in multiplayer cuz I've played HL1 multiplayer and CS for extended sessions.

I wonder what the FOV on the Xbox version is set to?

Here's a fix for the PC FOV

bring up the console
type: sv_cheats 1
fov 100 [default is 75]

Apparently, most FPS games have a FOV of 90 (like CS) and several people can get ill if it's below that (normal human vision is about 180 degrees). The tunnel-vision sensation may not be readily apparent but it will make some people ill after a while.

Heh, it was the sewer level in Dark Forces (PSX) that nearly did me in.

heh could be partly mental but it was the horrid framerate mixed with the puke green textures that did me in.

Good game though. :P

The original Half Life gave me motion sickness and a big headache only after 20 min of playing. Which is why I still haven't played it.

While I played a bit of Half Life 2 on PC, it didn't have the same affect. Don't know if it's the same on XB though.

what???
the xbox version was superb,

obviously the game looks better on a proper PC but the xbox version is still awesome

Thanks! That's likely my problem. The only other game that did this for me was Duke 3D, but I just figured it was the odd art and humor.
