Evangelist Swaggart apologizes for remark about gays

Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart apologized yesterday for saying in a televised worship service that he would kill any gay man who looked at him romantically.

A complaint was filed with a Canadian broadcasting group, and Swaggart said his Baton Rouge-based Jimmy Swaggart Ministries has received complaints from gay groups over the remarks made Sept. 12.

In the broadcast, Swaggart was discussing his opposition to gay marriage when he said, "I've never seen a man in my life I wanted to marry."

"And I'm going to be blunt and plain: If one ever looks at me like that, I'm going to kill him and tell God he died," Swaggart said to laughter and applause.

Swaggart said yesterday he jokingly has used the expression "killing someone and telling God he died" thousands of times, about all sorts of people. He said the expression is figurative and not meant to harm.

Ok no matter if you agree or disagree with gay marriages, you have to admit this is yet another proven time when he's shown to be a false preacher of his religeon.

Even if you totally disregard the gay comment, it's still extremely obvious he's a fake stating that he would kill another person, and then lie to the very idol he's worshiped and based his entire career around.

I seriously wish someone would slap some sence into all of his followers, they deserve it if they continue to follow like good little drones.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
While I imagine he was being facetious when he said that (I certainly hope so), it's a pretty poor joke coming from someone who is supposed be Christian, and at the very least, compassionate of other humans per Christ's teachings. Oh well, hypocracy in religion is certainly nothing new...

I'm a Christian, and I can't stand him and most of the people in that corrupt industry. That there are still people hanging on his every word just shows how pathetic people can be.

That's a disgusting comment and a reprehensible sentiment, particularly for (one who professes to be) a Christian. Inexcusable.

The goal of a Christian is to love the Lord your God and Love your neighbor as yourself.
It's been a goal of mine (in real life more than on the forums) to show love and compassion for everyone, regardless of who they are or what they choose to do in their life.

It's discrimination that brings this world down and it's discrimination that hurts the church.
Swaggart is not a Christian, of that I have no doubts.

The funny thing about what he said is that he thinks a guy could be romantically interested in him. Get over yourself, you unChristian turd.

Which is funny, because presumably God wouldn't need to be filled in on much of anything-- you know, omniscience and all. :p

I'm glad Grandpa porked a Chinese Muslim
This is the same guy who got in a huge scandal after being caught soliciting the services of a prostitute a decade and change ago.

You know, Ben Franklin wanted "No Fat Chicks" put in the Constitution, but the rest of the convention assumed (or wanted to assume) that he was joking.

The More You Know *play cheesy thoughtful music*

So sad that people try to hold up the Bible and yet ignore what it says. I have no particular problem with gay people - you have to be who you are. If someone gay tried to make a move on me I would be sure to let him know that I don't swing that way and then its all good. I don't need to have a confrontation with someone over that.

If God has an issue with someone being gay, he sure as hell has the ability to resolve that situation :) I'm content to let people live their lives how they want to - unless it is somehow detrimental to society as a whole. If God wants to deal with people - he doesn't need me for that.
