So I found out today I'm going to Osaka, Japan in 3 days. Why so soon? Well, a music festival is on and I'm going to it. Free acomm, free food, 50% paid flight, transfers to and from the airport, full backstage pass. The thing is I have no idea about Japan and especially Osaka. I'll be there 5 days, 2 are the festival and 3 for anything else.

What's some advice I should definitely know before going? I would like to check out some video game stuff, a couple places to eat, some cool bars or something. I'm seriously unprepared for this but I can't turn down an opportunity like this.

Edit: Oh, and 2 things.

Is transport easy to get around on?
Do hotels have internet there? If not, is it hard to get while on a trip like this? I don't want a $600 phone data bill.

Find "Super Potato" and "Game Tanteidan" stores in Den Den Town. And bring lots of money.

If you have the time (sounds like you do), Kyoto and Nara are not far from Osaka on the train. If you want to see ancient temples, etc., you really should try to go there.

Osaka is about 30 minutes from Kyoto, depending on which trains you take. Tons of cool shit to see in Kyoto. In Osaka I can't remember anything in particular that was amazing except this all you can eat/drink pizza place next to an arcade where my group and I got trashed and then took super kawaii photo booth pictures

Oh yeah, look up Nara. If you want to see a huge ass temple, that's the one to see.

Is the train system good there? Kyoto sounds like a good day visit.

Kyoto is my favorite place on earth. The train system there is a little sparser than other big cities in Japan, but you can get anywhere but the W/NW corner of the city pretty easily by train/subway. Just expect to do a bit of walking. Actually that's true no matter where you are in Japan - walking, walking everywhere. And stairs. Many stairs.

However, should you want to go out tithe NW corner, or many of the popular sightseeing places, the bus system in Kyoto is quite good too.

My recommendation would normally be Chionin Temle, but it's under reconstruction for like 7 years o_0. Hit up Kiyomizudera, and Fushimi Inari. The latter is about 10 minutes out if town by local train. You can also "visit" Nintendo's headquarters, and by visit I mean stand outside a giant white walled off building in a kind of shitty industrial section of town.

Kyoto Station has a Ramen Alley on one of the upper floors with different kinds f ramen from all around the country. I recommend the Tomiyama Black Broth ramen. It's the only one that looks like a bowl of liquid tar, but the flavor and the tender pork will knock your socks off.

Anyone here tried prostate massage? I've heard good things. Too good things.
