I don't know a terrible amount about cameras but it's worked alright.

I don't know if you really need all that extra megapixel power, it depends what you're going to use it for.

It's funny you bump this up, I just started shopping for a digital camera yesterday. How many megapixels do I REALLY need? I'm just going to use it for vacation photos and the occasional everyday shot, nothing professional.

I don't see a point in having 7.1MP when the lens is that small. How could it be effective enough to matter?

More correctly, 7.1MP won't matter when the CCD isn't any bigger than it's 5MP or even 4MP brotheren.
