I'm totally unprepared for the X360 launch. Help!

A Shining Example
I recently won a 360 via the MD promo.

I had originally planned on skipping the 360 and riding out the current gen until the PS3 hits but now that I am getting a 360 for free I've suddenly been thrust into the next gen and I am totally unprepared.

I've been looking around trying to find out which games will be available at launch and I can't seem to get a definitive answer anywhere. A lot of the publishers are using the term "launch window".

I'm getting NFSMW with the system but I'm selling it ASAP (I'm not even going to open it) because it doesn't look next gen enough IMO and because I know PGR3 will completely blow it away.

Right now I'm looking for something that will be available on launch day that will look good (not because I'm a graphics whore but because I don't want to reward laziness) and that will be exclusive among the next-gen systems. And I can tell you right now that I'm not interested in Kameo.

Right now the only games I've decided on are PGR3 (but I don't think it will be available on launch day) and PD0 (if the visuals improve).

What are some of my other choices?

Ghost Recon?

DOA4? Any chance of a DOA4 Hardcore on PS3? I'm unsure about this one b/c of Itagaki's "I want to work on the most powerful system" mantra.

Oblivion? Chances of a PS3 port? No hard drive standard makes me think its a definite possibility but I'd love for SteveMeister to come into this thread and say that it won't be happening. It would make me feel better about buying it.

I'm also probably going to get LIVE and hopefully play some gaffers online. What is everyone else getting on launch day?

I think you're expecting too much from launch games. Wait for Gears of War if you want to be blown away by graphics, but until then just enjoy whatever games you can.

Well... congrats on winning a 360... regardless if you want it or not you just picked up a 400 dollar system package... and a free game. if you have a good HDTV.... you're set.


I dont know what your tastes in gaming are but here are my top picks for launch

- One Xbox 360 Premium Pack

- One Play N Charge Kit

Games:

1. Perfect Dark Zero
2. Dead Or Alive 4
3. Ridge Racer 6
 
Is GR3 a launch game? I'm not too worried about that coming to the PS3 b/c knowing Ubisoft they will have GR4 out by then. ;)
 
Hmm..

I wonder just how MUCH money you could get for that on Ebay. Not the system itself, but the winning ticket or whatever you have.
 
I'm prepared...to rent games rather than buy them. (I also won)

This is unrelated, but has anyone called today to find out when confirmations will be out for 9/2 winners and beyond? I'm insane and I have to ask about this every 10 seconds.
 
Guys I'm not selling the system b/c deep down I know I would have bought one eventually anyway. I have a feeling that Sega's next-gen stuff will all be headed for the 360.
 
When are the 360s that people won supposed to ship? Are they waiting until the release date, or will they ship them sooner? I guess there wouldn't be any games to play on it if it shipped early, anyway.

I read somewhere that the winners will receive their system & game on the Saturday before launch (whenever that is).

I'm okay with going a few days without any games on the system but I probably won't be able to last a week. Besides, I wouldn't be surprised to see some games hit shelves before the system itself.

Is it that easy to win? I noticed in the thread about the contest it seemed like there was cheating going on.

It does. The more people that I know are buying a certain game the more people I will be able to play online with (I don't want to play people that I don't know at all). Thanks.
 
Is it more likely that the X360 will launch at the beginning, middle, or end of November?
I know there was that huge thread about it launching on Black Friday, then some other speculation said November 4. Then there's the Xbox's launch in the middle of the month, so I'm not sure.

More like 16-20 winners from here, actually. All but three or four used the now-dead "referral codes" method, though.

If I had to guess I would say Nov 15/16. The reason why I'm guessing that date is because way back when the date NOV 15 (or was it 16?) was on the license plate of a car in one of the early NFSMW pics. Thats probably their target date and NFSMW is supposed to be out on launch day so....
 
I do expect PGR3 and PDZero to be GAF XBL game of choice, pretty much the Halo2 for 360. GEt one of those games and you'll be fine.


GAFFERS are fun to play with so you win either way
