Immediate MGS3 help needed.

For the love of all that is holy.....This game fucking rawks!!! Finished up the first chapter and I am so very impressed. The graphics, gameplay, and cutscenes are AAA all the way. The facial expressions and motion capture are unbelievable. Love the story so far as well, top rate alternate history stuff. Snake/Big Boss is such a badass. If the rest of the game is this good or, god forbid, better, this will be my fav game this gen. Superb.

interesting, considering that most people hate the first 2 hours of the game. but if you're loving it, you're totally gonna dig the rest of the game

Is there a choice for people who have never played a Metal Gear game? I've decided to skip 1/2 and start 3 next week. Also, the gamespot review says if you haven't liked any of the metal gear games, then 3 is not for your. Would you guys say that is true? I played a bit of the first one and didn't like it. I'm going to try 3 anyway but my expectations are lower after watching GS's video review.

first off, gamespot suckz. especially that turd kasavin.

and yes you can get mgs3 and like it. bare with the camera though, since it can be frustrating at the beginning, but once you get a hold of it it works pretty good.

there are only two choices in MGS3. like mgs1 or mgs2. i suggest you take i like mgs2, since that easter egg is much better than the mgs1 (it only takes away snake's beard at the intro iirc).

Since hes never played MGS2 he won't understand the joke. Just pick the "I like MGS1" option and see the normal intro.

it affects codec scenes, if you choose "i like mgs1", the codecs are less frequent, if i recall.
and if you liked the first hour, i think the latter of the game is going to end up being the best 13 hours of your life.

What? The PAL version has "I like MGS1", "I like MGS2" and "This is my first MGS!" as options. I haven't chosen the last one so I couldn't tell you what it does, but it's there.

It has? well sorry then. my memory is like a goldfish when it comes to certain areas :P

Agreed :D

Anyway, trough all months I am admin of metalgearsolid.org I understand one thing - most of the people just don't get MGS. Kasavin don't get the series too.

That's why Kojima is bored, I bet his new project (revealed in a few days on E3 btw) will be some pokemon-a-like tamagochi :)

Why do people hate it? It didnt have Raiden in for pete's sake.

apparantly the intro contains 18 minutes of gameplay and 4 hours of cutscene material*

*someone on this forum actually said this

Congratulations. You have great taste in games. :D

Let us know what you think of the ending, BTW.

It will probably be awhile since classes start up tomorrow, but I have a feeling MGS will get its time in between assignments.

Wario64- Yeah, I guess I can see that. But the story and cutscenes were just too good to get upset about it.

His main problem with MGS is that he doesn't feel he's got much freedom to do what he wants. There's an expectation with each MGS that he has to follow. By doing a new series there's no expectation and he's able to do whatever he wants to do with it. I really wouldn't be surprised he started making a series and then handing it off to another director so he can do something else.

Yea there's a "This is my first time playing MGS!" option and I chose that one.

Great game so far, its my first MGS but the camera can be a problem but I got used to it.

My interest has been lost in MGS3...right on the cliff looking over Groznyj Grad (sp?)...I just don't feel like playing it anymore.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I don't know where else to post this and it's not a very old thread anyway. :p

I just started MGS3 hours ago, and I do not like anything so far. I also think I have no idea what I'm doing which is (hopefully) the reason why I'm not enjoying it.

The question is, how the hell do you know what's going on? The camera is awful. How often do you guys switch to first-person view? I'm still not using any of the anti-personal radar or whatever it's called though so this will improve when I try the game again this weekend.

Also, do you go through the game stealthy or just kill everybody? I made it to the factory just running while soldiers shoot at me. :|

This is reminding me of playing REmake and thinking that I must like this game because of all the hype, only to quit minutes later. It's not as bad, and I haven't really mastered CQC even so I'm giving it another shot but I'd like to hear your opinions.

I just finished MGS3 for the first time... hoooooooooooooooooly Moses. That's the most incredible ending sequence ever. Everything from Groznyj Grad on is excellent.

Chrono: I use the Motion Detector whenever I'm having problems with the camera. Also, you can lock the camera with R3 and lock on to enemies with L1. Those help a bit.

I killed around 200 people in total in my playthrough, although there was a point in the game when I wished I had held back. An effective (and non-lethal) technique to use against shieldless guards is to CQC throw them by holding a direction on the left analog stick and pressing Circle. This will generally knock them out for a long time.

Stick with MGS3; it just gets better as it goes on.

Um is there anything bad about killing people instead of knocking them unconcious/tranquilize them?

Before MGS3 I had never played an MGS game (not counting the NES metal gears) before. And I absolutely hated the first couple of hours, but the game got simply awesome each passing hour after that, the cinematics and storyline is simply unmatched, gameplay is great too. I am near the end now (GG). So far the game has been a great experience, easily one of the top five games this generation.

KEEP PLAYING FOR GODS SAKE

Yeah, definitely keep playing. Groznyj Grad on is sweet. Though I thought that ladder climb up to the mountain was badass, too.

I don't usually cringe, but when
Volgin caught Snake and started beating the shit out of him before hanging him up
, I almost wanted to turn away.

And this is a spoiler, but you can read this without having the story itself spoiled. it'll add another awesome aspect of the game.
when Johnny feeds you, throw the food back.

man... and the scene where
Snake is escaping from Groznyj Grad through the sewers? if you do it full speed, with the dogs chasing you, and the music thundering and you're just running towards daylight,
it's AWESOME.

man did this game rule.

Hmm, could MGS2: Substance load MGS2 game saves? I kinda want to start MGS3, but I might want MGS3: Subsistance for the online stuff.

Hmmm, IIRC it does. Hope someone can back that up for me, but I'm pretty sure....

Your ranking improves if you kill less people. Plus, lots of killing may come back to haunt you late in the game!
EL OH EL

Let me say I'm on my 3rd time beating it. I was starting to feel withdrawn from not playing MGS3, the game just straight out fuckin owns. Hideo is a fuckin creative basterd

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater IS the game of this gen. In terms of quality "everything" packed in one title.

personally, while an awesome game, i dont think mgs3 is the game of this gen. RE4 for mine :)
