IMPORTANT (unless you don't mind being banned)

IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ THE ENTIRE THREAD BEFORE REPLYING

After careful deliberation in the Mod Forum, the following acronyms and catchphrases have been banned:

FHUTA
IBL
IBHAT
"SELL YOUR ______, IT'S ALL OVER!"

Effective immediately, anyone who replies using any of the aforementioned phrases will get banned for an undisclosed amount of time. Repeat offenders will receive substancially longer bans. This is not being added to the TOS, as this thread will remain stickied for a week, and logic dictates that Junior/New members won't be inclined to use FHUTA.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BE CLEVER

Typing something akin to;

"FHUT... forget it"

Will earn you the exact same punishment as typing a banned phrase. For the record, both;

IAWTP

and

IBTN

are NOT bannable phrases, and thus are still acceptable (IBTN is still being considering to be added to the list, but IAWTP allows one to show their support of an idea, which can't feasibly be elaborated on) for widespread use.

If possible, try to post a unique message, as the entire reason we're resorting to banning fucking acronyms is because they've been beaten to death by dozens of unoriginal posts and posters. If you like certain catchphrases, don't use them all the time, or else this happens.

If you have any legitimate questions about any of this, you can post them in this thread. To summarize,

DO NOT POST FHUTA, IBL, IBHAT, NOR SELL YOUR ______ IT'S ALL OVER ANYMORE OR YOU WILL GET BANNED

Sounds like a plan.

Oh, also, is it bannable right away or do you get a warning? You know, some people might forget for a second or...

Are these phrases banned even from being included in a 'unique' post? Like if I just said one of them in the middle of a sentence.

I'd be fine with giving a warning, and I might do so, but I won't say that I will in order to allow people to just continue using it claiming that they never saw the stickied thread with IMPORTANT in it in either forum.

Yes.

Yes.
Sounds perfectly fair. These things are getting out of hand.

Luckily I changed my mind about making a specific reference in my last post then :lol

Anyway, this should be good seeing as I must read hundreds of these replies every day.

This won't work someone will just bring back

IOLDK (It's On Like Donkey Kong!)

or something on the GAF stupid level

I dunno where this came from but after seeing it here the other day, Ive been saying this outside of the net all the time.

Oh yeah!

Is "______ D00MED!" allowed?

You know, like, a bad news story about Nintendo DS and everyone goes "Nintendoods DOOMED!"

1. What does the 3rd one stand for?
2. Where does the last one originate from?
3. Does this apply to the OT, because if so, I think it should be stickied there as well.

Do you guys really think that we're going to go through this whole process again each time an acronym gets banned and someone decides to try and start another one? I'm just going to ban anyone who types IOLDK or any other acronym that requires a subsequent explanation in brackets. Right now, you have IAWTP and IBTN. In the future, you can still have these, and other useful acronyms, if you decide to not try and make up pointless ones or overuse currently acceptable ones.

Or, we could just eventually ban acronyms and catchphrases all together. There's a reason why we're doing this, and anyone attempting to circumvent this ruling will fall under the nice little DO NOT TRY TO BE CLEVER clause.

Currently, the only 4 bannable phrases listed in the first post are, well, bannable. Thus, BLANK IS DOOMED is currently acceptable. However, and I will reiterate this as many times as it takes, if you guys continue to post stupid catchphrases time and time again, they will get banned, and you will get banned. It's that simple.

There are also other phrases that are going to get discussed (for example: 'xbot' and 'nbot'), and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see _____ is DOOMED to be added to that discussion. There is a chance more phrases will be added to the list in the near future, and the more that they're used in the next few weeks/months, the more likely they are to get shitcanned.

Thank the gods.

Anyone who replies to a thread with only an over used acronym is a fucking dolt.
No fucking kidding. People replying with IAWTP and OWNED and such.. comprehension people.

1. Does it matter?
2. Does it matter?
3. It does apply to the OT, and there is a stickied thread there as well. In fact, THIS thread is a copy of the stickied OT thread.

I'm assuming people with those phrases in their avatar should change them, huh?
Yes.

Okay, we don't need suggestions on which phrases should be banned. The mods and admins on this site read threads. We see stuff like DOOMED. We know it's there. When we decide to discuss this again, it'll get brought up.

So please condense your questions to ones directed at the policy, and not future inductions to the GAF Gestapo Dictionary

I'm glad you are trying to clean up the Forum... yet the artist in me kinda feels - uhmmm strange about being told what to express and what not to... It all boils down to ignoring the old used up phrases that are no longer funny, people get tired of them and we move on to the next thing that gets a chuckle. Bannings though kinda make GAF a lame place to surf and post when you start feeling a little less free to exchange laughs with friends.

I guess it gets hard to BABYSIT a group of gaming wackos

We are lacking in:

Patiences the capacity to endure hardship, difficulty, or inconvenience without complaint.

Tolerance the capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others.

Freedom the exemption from the arbitrary exercise of authority in the performance of a specific action

It is sad it had to come to this... But I like it here and I have been to OPA-AGES and seen what no rules does to a Forum.

I do hope you MODS are strongly thinking of what is best for this FORUM and not just tripping over a non-issue just for kicks...

-my 2 cents

My opinion is that these kind of bans kill the uniqueness of this forum. It's kind of strange banning certain words of acronyms even though they're annoying, but since it's the mods's decision I will respect it. And btw can you warn people the first week since many like me don't even look at stickies. I read this by chance.

It's a privilege to post here...blah, blah, blah. [/mod]

:p

This is what, the third or fourth time th' F-word has been banned? And it's an "internet staple?"

God, I'm so proud.

These rules are cool. Some posters rack up like 20+ posts a day, and I bet more than half of them are made up of this bandwidth-wasting bullshit.

:lol true true... but without members there is no forum... alas... people are too gutless to fight mods - some forums have to beg for members

Shit, I'll snatch a mod by the collar and beat a muthafucka DOWN! :p

Pwned is still pretty cool, but getting stale.

Hmm, lets think of a new one.

maybe-

bowned?
pooned?

BATF (balls across the face?)

:/
