You need to create protected spaces for talent to thrive in a region; otherwise, the better-supported ecosystem will swallow the smaller ecosystem. And the smaller ecosystem was never given a chance to develop.

This also occurred with StarCraft 2 and the Overwatch League, where local talent was unable to develop because they consistently lost to international talent.

This caused both the local competitive scenes of both games to decline during the peak of competitive StarCraft 2 and Overwatch.
