Infamous vs Prototype | 15 Years Later (Video)

Just released a video looking back on a fun rivalry from back in 2009 between Infamous and Prototype; two games that were being compared endlessly for their subject matter, settings, and close release dates. I'm sure most of you have already decided which game you liked more, but I still enjoyed looking back on each game with a modern perspective. Are you fine with where they left both franchises or do you want to see revivals from them? Which side did you end up on back in the day? Anyone else surprised there was never a remaster collection made for Infamous? Let me know what you think!

I never played more than the demo of Prototype.

But Infamous was great fun on PS3. I enjoyed 1, 2, and the Blood one all for difference reasons, but I remember having great fun with all of them.

Infamous was my free game from Sony, I remember that. Was that after a hack or some PSN downtime?

I miss PS3 era Sony 1P so much. I'm not even gonna bother with another list. If you were there, then you already know. Seems like back then they didn't really give a fuck about making money but cared about good games and they covered damn near every genre.
Agreed, however, they can only stretch that strategy for so long. Most PS3 1st party titles back then sold peanuts. I’d love it if they remastered Little Big Planet 1, or Puppeteer

Partly because it was a full 12 round boxing match that generation, and the craziest thing is that it was all fought over second place.

Not sure which game was more succesful or which copied which, but i always liked Prototype more. Didn't like the Infamous protagonist and loved Prototype's tank fights and the splatter/brutality.

Aside from their close release date, the comparison itself never made sense.

It’s like comparing Static Shock with Agent Venom.

Played through both Prototype games, I really enjoyed them. Played a bit of the first Infamous but PS3 controller and me don't jive, so I couldn't enjoy the game. I would love to see the Motorstorm games remastered and on PC. Also I hold out hope for a Prototype 3.

I've only played the first Prototype which was very fun up until the final boss fight.

I've watched playthroughs of the first Infamous and that felt like more interesting, especially the comic-book storytelling the decision making and the power charging mechanic.

They should bring the Infamous titles to PC.

I had quite a bit of fun with Infamous 1 and 2. But I wouldn't say they are among the best games of that generation.
Then I played Prototype on PC and holy shit, it's one of the worst ports ever made. It ran like crap, with performance and stutters so bad, it would make UE4 jealous.

Festival of Blood was awesome. Lol

I enjoyed both InFAMOUS 1&2.

What I partially liked about original game was you could use all your powers without ever pausing the change up powers.

InFAMOUS was mostly played like TPS and some of your powers acted as different weapon which you even had shotgun like projectiles.

I always wanted to play Infamous. I remember fighting with c*nts in school about which one was better! :messenger_grinning:

Thanks OP for jogging my memory.

To this day i still have to play that one...
Back in the days i thought it was just a lame cashgrab but i was probably wrong.
I don't remember it costing anything? But it has been a while for sure. I still have it installed on my Ps3.

I really want a new infamous collection. To be honest second son was my first infamous game and I really liked it so I was hoping for those remasters/ports.

Liked both, but Infamous more, Prototype was more mayhem in it's gameplay while Infamous had more "rules" like turn on the electricity in that era so you can glide, really enjoyed the city of Infamous 1 and 2, while Second Son never was as good.

With a single patch you can get that PC port running at 60fps/4K.

Second son had the best combat\gameplay\traversal, it clearly feel more polished and less janky, but for almost everything else, the first 2 are better, especially plot and charas, like not even a contest.

It had way less personality. Could partially be because they set it in a real city and tried to go for a more realistic direction.

still remember how hard prototype 1 platinum trophy back then, it require highest rank in all time challenge, but it was sastified to unlock it, prototype 2 platinum such a let down

It's still my favorite superhero game. The powers, physics and destruction felt so great. I never played prototype but maybe I should give that a go sometime

Infamous definitely meant a lot to ps3 and set up modern super hero games, I enjoyed 2 as well just a forgotten franchise. l

that sucker punch went from something as unique/clever as the infamous series to something as mundane/familiar as yet another frigging counter-based samurai game is one of my biggest disappointments with sony's triple-a studios over the last decade. i mean yeah, tsushima's gorgeous, but otherwise? such a waste...

Red Faction: Guerilla was the superior game releasing that summer.
Found it in the bargain bin late year and was blown away.

I think the hype for many PS3 era exclusives is overblown, especially Killzone which was never great and often pretty weak.

That said, infamous was really good and much better than Ghost of Tsushima.

If you bought a PS3 and couldn't afford a 360, Sony certainly made your purchase feel justified by the end of the generation.

It sucked when they started shuttering the studios that made the PS3 what it was.

I got infamous 2 with my ps3. Played for about an hour and got bored. Still have it. Maybe I should give it another chance 14 years later lol
