AMD is diong a roadshow with an INSANE deal.

AMD Athlon™ 64 3200+ 939 pin processor
Asus A8N-E Socket 939 motherboard
Microsoft® Windows® XP x64 Edition

All that for $250!!!!

The processor alone is $200!!
Newegg listed price today for all that
AMD Athlon™ 64 3200+ 939 pin processor - $195
Asus A8N-E Socket 939 motherboard - $142
Microsoft® Windows® XP x64 Edition - $154
total = $491

They also have a Server bundle which is even more insane.
Server Bundle - Price = $500
2 - AMD Opteron™ 246 CPUs
Tyan Thunder K8SD Pro (S2882-D) motherboard
Microsoft Server 2003 x64 Edition

Retail for the server bundle would be like $1200!!!

Only catch is you have to sign up and attend the show.

Wow. That IS insane.

Any idea how big that server is? Can it be used as a PC as well? I'm not familiar with the technology.

Is MS Windows Server 2003 basically just a different version of windows like XP, NT, etc?

I would seriously drive a hundred miles to snag one of these systems at that price. I imagine that server is pretty damn fast.

Ack, and the one day they're in Houston I have admin training. Screw it, who needs a job when I can get a deal this cheap. This is a great price.

Gimme 300 bucks and I'll go buy it for you. :)

Damn, not coming anywhere near me. I'd definately sign up and get the first deal though, niiiiice, and I'd be saving so much money I might be able to justify spending a good chunk on a decent graphics card too other than my current 9500 Pro.

why are there never any insane deals applicable to the UK. I want to upgrade but a amd3500 64bit 1gb pc3200 ram and a mobo(agp) costs too much :(

:lol. I was really confused...I was like..."Did I put something in my profile that like...he wants me to look at?"

I just signed up to go, and got my confirmation email :). Now to come up with 250 bucks in extra cash to buy this.

I notice that these are not actually systems, they're just CPU/Mobo/XP64 bundles, but looking at the prices they're still insanely good value. Pity I'm in the UK, wonder if I can get a friend in the US to go and hook me up with one of these things :)

I'm guessing that I'd have to sit through the entire show waiting to actually pick up a bundle. It's 6 1/2 hours long. :(

sweet, chicago is the first stop. now if only i can invent some type of time machine to travel back to june 2nd....

I might go to the one in Burbank, CA. I've been wanting to upgrade for years and this is a pretty sweet deal to get started.

There's free food and, let's face it, you haven't anything better to do. :D

So here's the message I got (regarding the systems) when I registered to go:

The AMD Site said:
Limit one purchase of each bundle per person. Bundles are not for resale. Offer is only good at Tech Tour the day of the show. Pre-ordered bundles will be available at the show for pick up. Bundle purchases can be made online with a credit card. Bundle purchases cannot be made onsite

Aaaaand here's the message when I tried to pre-order:

The AMD Site said:
We apologize but due to the popularity of the AMD/Microsoft Tech Tour 2005 Desktop and Server show special offers, we are currently SOLD OUT. Please check back for future availability

Fucking crap... I wonder if they'll stock up again. Wishful thinking anyways

Good. Now I don't need to figure out if I can swing the show tomorrow in Atlanta.

Did AMD sell out of processors? ;)

Well, I have a Athlon 64 3500+ based rig right now so I was not in a huge need of a new system.

Well, I am scheduled to work during that time, but I do have lots of sick time. *cough cough*
No products to preorder makes me available for work though.
