The genre of instrumental hip-hop is something that I don't know too much about. That said, I do enjoy the few albums I own that fall into this category. These albums don't extend too far beyond the obvious, though, like DJ Shadow and RJD2. Perhaps some of you could offer suggestions to broaden my horizons in this area? Which albums (excepting Endtroducing and Deadringer) would you consider essential?

DJ Vadim - USSR Repertoire
Philip Jack - Surf
Mumbles - A Book Of Human Beats
DJ Mayonnaise - 55 Stories

And anything on the Memphix label but other than 1 cd/lp most of it is fairly rare 7 inches.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
I hardly know jack abot this kind of stuff, but one artist I like who I think fits this description is DJ Krush. He's a japanese guy and makes some pretty cool mostly instrumental albums. I guess it's classified as trip-hop, but he has a pretty unique sound afaik. I have the two albums Krush and Ki-Oku.
