Today I went in to return an item at a store. I made sure everything was proper in the box, it worked, and it was within the return period. However, it was around $2000, so I expected the process to be a big hassle.

On the contrary, I'm greeted with an enthusiastic employee that quickly and cheerfully makes sure it's all taken care of. Afterward, I thought about how she must have to work on being so efficient and outwardly positive and it made me feel like a piece of crap that needs to do better.

There are quite a few at the PC parts store

That's nothing out of space. If you work anywhere you have to be smiling and pleasant to your customers. If you went to the shop and saw the opposite, that shop needs some work.

Get a job in retail, you learn fast through repetition. Then get the fuck out of retail before it makes you hate all of humanity.

don't feel sh!tty she was probably already moving and walking and on her feet for a good amount of hours, her heart is pumped and the blood is flowing so shes probably feeling the endorphins

Sounds like you were nice, patient and understanding. Which is great because most customers are none of the above. Which is why I'm happy I no longer work in customer service.

Get a job in security. It's customer service without having to be fake. You can smile at nice patrons and curb-stomp ass wipes. Staff, Security and police will have your back. A little broken arm or leg can be explained by a fall. Patron Phones containing contrary evidence can be confiscated and lost. Venue hard drives containing damning camera footage can be lost too. Feels good. The freedom to deal with bullshit efficiently via blunt force trauma is liberating.
