Interesting places to visit in LA and Las Vegas?

In celebration of GTA SA's release, I've decided to visit these two cities.

Actually, a friend of mine wants me to attend this car show in Las Vegas on his behalf (he'll be paying for the plane ticket and hotel), and I'll probably be staying in LA for a day in addition to 3-4 days in Las Vegas.

Being that I live in Canada, and have only been to the states once (10 years ago, and to Texas), I have no idead what places to go and see, so any recommendations are welcome.

LA for only one day? I guess you can end up doing a quickie tour of it and see the stuff you see on TV. Compton is supposedly getting safer after all these years as gangs decrease the frequency of their activies. You will find a large Latino population that has supplemented much of the black population.

Depending on what time you go to Las Vegas, you can help with canvassing. I don't gamble, drink, or come near hookers, so I recommend shopping at the outlet malls and visiting Hoover dam.

Check out the Gameworks in Las Vegas. Its huge

And it's overpriced.

You can find many of the same games in arcades off the strip, for regular price. Gameworks might still be worth a trip, though, for the tower shooter game(if it's still there), and for spotting D-list celebs. I played Andrew Dice Clay in a round of Tekken.

Mib, just visit the bigger casinos. Ceasars and their Forum shops, Venetian, Paris, Stratosphere, MGM, Mirage, Treasure Island. Skip the Luxor, it fucking sucks. Consider the hilarious Star Trek experience tour at the Hilton. I'm not a Trek fan, but the actors were really fun(going off the script) and the Tour Guide had creepy inside knowledge on Patrick Stewart that blew my mind.

At night, hit up the buffets and then wind down in front of the Bellagio with the water show.

Las Vegas: Olympic Garden or Sapphire for the strippers. Hard Rock Hotel is a fun casino, lots of beautiful people, all that shit. I prefer to gamble elsewhere though. If none of this stuff is your scene, further advice would be pointless.

If you have a car in Vegas you must go to:

Frank & Fina's Cocina
Address: 5550 W Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89146
Phone: (702) 878-8669

They have the best mexican food I ever ate. I mean that. It is so damn good.

Yea i forgot to mention the price. Hopefully they have a deal where you pay by the hour because otherwise its pretty expensive. If you do plan on going there go and sign up for their newsletter on their website because sometimes they have pretty good deals that you can print out and take to the store. Im not sure if they still have it, but when i signed up for their newsletter they sent me a one hour free coupon. Being the cheap person i am, i printed out about 10 for me and the people i took to just hang out and play games all day for free.

Not only is it overpriced, but they have shit ass games in there. the last few times I went there, they had nothing knew at all. You are better off visiting arcades in the hotels. some of them have some cool shit

Uh... if you're going to Vegas, I'd recommend going to stuff that you wouldn't necessarily be able experience elsewhere (i.e. don't go to Gameworks.) Gambling, Booze, and Girls (not necessarily the hookers, but even just the strippers :))

Hard Rock and MGM are my fav; Hard Rock because it's a younger crowd, and MGM just because it's quite simply, awesome. Caesar's is great because of the huuuuuuuuge shopping complex (I think they were adding to it too.) Treasure Island and Mirage are pretty good. I went over the summer, and just stood there for about 20 minutes and watched that "Siegfried and Roy take care of White Tigers" looping video in the tiger cage. It's pretty damn funny considering what happened.

Ditto to whoever said Olympic Garden, although beware. My friend blew through 160 dollars in 10 minutes without even going to the VIP or anything.

Los Angeles:

Griffith Park (best view of the smog)
Meltdown (best comic book store in the state)
Amoeba (best record store in the state)
The Arclight
The Egyptian Theater
Hollywood Walk of Fame (serious tourist trap)
Little Tokyo (Shabu Shabu house and arcade)
Chinatown
Melrose (between Fairfax and LaBrea -- for people watching)
3rd St Farmer's Market (more good eats)
Philipe's (home of the French Dip)

I visit a friend in Vegas all the time. I'm usually too drunk to remember any of the good restaurants though. Four things I do know...

1) The Bellagio buffet is not that great. Definitely not $40 good. My friend loves it for some reason. The fountains are definitely worth checking out if you've never seen them though.

2) There is nothing discount about Lee's Discount Liquor. They are more expensive than the state owned stores here. Meh, didn't stop me from getting severely trashed.

3) Plenty of cute Asian girls on the strip.

4) If you're into Poker play on the strip, regardless if the buy-in/antes are more expensive. The white trash/senile old man player ratio goes up about 200% when you get off the strip.

Where is the arcade in Little Tokyo? I have been there a couple times, but don't remember seeing an arcade...I know where the (or maybe 'a') shabu shabu house is.

I second the Farmer's Market...its my favorite to place to eat in LA. I gotta go back there sometime soon.

There's a Japanese mall at 333 S. Alameda.

The arcade is on the top floor.

City Cat Karaoke, in the same mall, is great for private room crooning.

When I went to Gameworks in Vegas they had some cool stuff I hadn't seen elsewhere yet. (gitaroo man) The point though is, you can get DRUNK OFF YOUR ASS and play arcade games.
