Attention peeps of the world. As you may, or may not know, they are
currently building Internet 2. I'm not too up on the particulars of it, but
from what I gather, they will only allowed Government approved websites,
chat servers, ftp servers, and such on it.


I think we got to start doing something now, if we're to keep our way of
life.


I know many of you are out there working on new OS's, new Protocols, and
such. What we need to do is channel our energies: Focus them on a few
points I come up with:


1. A new no mainline OS
2. Protocols that are not TCP/IP
3. Hardware to accept the use of such protocols:
IE: Routers, Hubs, Servers, Network Cards etc.
4. Alternate Connections beside Cable, Phone, DSL, and Satellite.


IF we don't act now, they will destroy this Internet we all use now.


I foresee Internet 2 being used in conjuction with RFID, VeriChip and a host
of other intrusive software and devices.


While we know the majority of us use the Net for legal means, and though
there are people who don't use the Net for legal means, we should not "Throw
the Baby out with the Bath Water."


When Internet 2 comes, I daresay you wont be able to even access it without
a chip in your hand (Mark of the Beast - Revelation 13: 16-18 KJV) Your
freedom of artisitic expression: Your freedom to communicate across
cultures, your freedom to code what you wish on your page will cease to
exist.


As we all know, Britain is currently totally Orwellian, yea way beyond
anything Orwell could of imagined. Now Australia is enacting its own
"Terrorist Laws." America is slowly giving way to a Totalitarian State,
with the passage of such heinous Legislation such as Patriot Act, Domestic
Law Enforcement Enhancement Act, and a host of other Orwellian Laws.


Bush is chomping at the bits to suspend Posse Comitatis.


So what are we left to do, but have a back up plan in case this Internet is
shut down.


It's up to you. I have no means, nor knowledge to do such things. But I
know there are plenty out there that do. If you don't act now, then
tomorrow, usenet may be gone. irc gone. http gone. everything gone.


You surely dont want to become functionaries in a total World Orwellian
Police State?

The internet 2 consortium develops new networking technologies. The internet 2 isn't any sort of replacement for the internet. The internet 2 network, iirc, is sort of a testing ground for these new technologies.

Maybe (protocols and such are pretty different IIRC), but this guy is blowing it way out of proportion.

You'll not get to connect to the Internet2 unless you need to anyway through one of the members, and at a flat rate cost of $27,000 a year for access becoming a member/affiliate membership isn't aimed at the consumer

We'll see trickle-down improvements to the net from Internet2 research anyway.

The Internet2 is essentially what the Internet was originally supposed to be -- a research and government network. Hence, only research and government traffic is allowed on it. Also, the Internet can't be "shut down" in any meaningful sense.
