Interview with Retro Studios

why does it bother so many if there will be a metroid prime 3? The first two games are excellent, and I can only imagine a third game on the revolution. If halo 3 was announced by bungie i wouldn't see any compliants. I love the Prime games, and one more to end a triology would be perfect.

It's kind of funny that some people will diss the Prime games, but then goto great lengths to say Metroid (NES) and Metroid 2 (GB) are a couple of the best games ever.

"we get here around 5:30 in the morning"

WTF? Who the fuck shows up to work at 5:30 in the morning in this industry?

Way to make your team hate life.

the EA employees? :lol

Gargh, I just got beaten by Prime. Didn't even get to the second form. Advice anyone?

Just on the control there is one thing that I think is flawed. Nothing to do with movement, it's that there is no buffering of the beam switching. You have to wait until Samus is doing absolutely nothing else, isn't being hit etc. and then hit to switch it. So many times in the Prime fight I see it change colour hit the c-stick but get hit or something just as I was doing it, start to charge up a shot only to realise that the beam hadn't switched. Even if the switch command gets placed in a queue, I don't want to be hammering up on the c-stick for 10 seconds trying to get a response.

The NES and GB versions of Metroid play nothing like the 3D versions. It's not funny at all.

If Retro releases another Metroid game this generation; I will be completely and utterly annoyed. The series is great, anyone who disagrees either doesn't like Metroid or is retarded. Anyway, the third game running off the same engine, more or less, is always one too much. GTA:SA is a perfect example this -- I know I'm in the minority here, but three GTAs this generation was too much.

no.

Lock-on am cry? :( :( :(

But anyway, nice interview. Yeah, they seem like they love Metroid, but at this point I'd like to see just what original ideas the guys have.

Or... here's a question. What Nintendo franchise do people think Retro would be good to overhaul besides Metroid?

Personally, I'd like to see what they could do with Stunt Race F/X. Or maybe Nintendo could work with Retro to create a brand new franchise. Concepts and character designs by Nintendo, game mechanics, layout, and development by Retro... hmm.

I love the art direction in Echoes. The textures look so pretty with subtle use of colors mixing about. The reds and purples which sort of come and go from foreground to background etc.
I have to say it is also the most polished feeling game I've played this year. I really did enjoy it a good deal more than halo 2, as well; it has a sense of refinement and ballance in its alien landscapes and its puzzles and its lack of annoying sidekicks...and well Metal Gear Solid 3 was a treat, but it seemed a little uncomfortable in its PS2 skin, or is that engine... Compare this to Ratchet or Jak? Lol. Funny. Echoes is likely the most enjoyable game experience I've had this year, alongside Pikmin 2 and Ninja Gaiden. Prime 2 is a hawt lock on a perfect 10, imo.

Knowing Nintendo it will probbaly only ever be Metroid Prime and they'll not learn from any mistakes.
