While Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky will be releasing *The Outer Worlds* in a week and in a way continue the group known as Troika that brought us the Fallout series, Arcanum and Vampire: Bloodlines. a particular third member of that trio also slaves away at Microsoft.

Not at Obsidian though, but at InXile. He's joined there by Chad Moore, another Troika Alumni. Together they are developing a new RPG with Microsoft money. Definitly something to look forward to!

Chad Moore was the lead designer and lead character artist for vampire: bloodlines. He wrote the main quest and worked with white wolf and his team to make sure that the game is true to the source material. Looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.

Rumored to be an Action RPG.

I'm hoping with Microsoft money and support they can turn out something really great.

I'm finishing The Bard's Tale 4 DC which was apparently a kickstarter project. While it is unpolished and super buggy, it's actually pretty fun, has some aspects that really shine and seems like it could have been an excellent game with a bigger team, more support and a budget appropriate to a project this size.

Getting the lead combat designer from God of War for their new IP which definitely appears to be an action RPG is one hell of a get. Microsoft has been acquiring a shit ton of talent since E3 2018.

Since they are about to release Wasteland 3, i think we will only see this game in 2023-2024.

The game started in 2019. Expect 2024.
Wasteland 3 is made by Torment team, which means they made it in 3 years. Torment also was made in 3 years. 2024 is way to late for their next game. Unless they will go AAA way, but I don't think that's what they should or will do.

They are literally calling it "AAA Unreal Engine 5 project" in their job descriptions.

😲 For some reason my mind filtered that. AAA game by InXile is strange idea. They are specializing in turn based RPGs and dungeon crawlers. Two genres where AAA budget makes no sense, especially from bussines point of view.

It's a action-rpg.

Both Obsidian and InXile founders came from Black Isle studios. InXile has also done the Bards Tale ARPG in the past. I dont know about InXile, but Obsidian will still do TRPG, like Josh Sawyer is making one in Unity.

Hiring the combat designer from GOW and expanding to a AAA has me very excited for InXile. Always fun to watch studios get help in funding and expand.

Not... exactly? InXile hasn't had much connection to Black Isle, its mostly been people directly working under Interplay following Fargo. They did gain and lose ex-Black Isle employees over the years though.

Good choice if true.

My point being they(Obsidian) transitioned from doing TTRPG in Black Isle days to action RPGs now. Nothing is stopping from InXile to make a big ARPG.
