If you have an old POP account on another service that you want to piggyback on MobileMe, you need to set that e-mail account (wherever that is.. on another server or something) to always forward its e-mails to MobileMe.
Bingo. I meant Mail.app on OS X with my normal POP accounts. Got ya. Ah well, this'll work alright.

P.S. Posting this while on the train with my 3GS, via your amazing amazing app. <3 so much.

Done. Just upgraded to the 3GS 32GB through Rogers. Previously had an iPhone 3G 8GB and my plan was $87 per month. Took less than 5 minutes to do the upgrade. $299.

I'm just starting the whole process over, but that was a really strange occurrence.
if you use expert mode you'll see a check box for Cydia and Icy. But it doesn't look like you met that earlier... except if you go the ispw from RipDev or something :lol

No, I used expert mode to remove the shitty pineapple logo.
I just did the restore again and cydia was there.. Now I'm restoring from my previous backup.
Gonna see if Cydia makes it through this time.

Ok, maybe it's there but hidden? Apparently Spotlight can see hidden jailbreak apps, and even launch them, so check that if you can't see it anymore...

Yeah, I searched for it in spotlight.
Ugh, that's really annoying. It happened again.
I'm just gonna do all my cydia stuff and then restore from the backup.

sweet. upgraded to the iphone 3gs for $299 through Rogers, convinced the CSR that the system access fee is really part of my wireless spending, and that my initial activation fee is still part of revenue :lol

the yellow tint folks are mentioning is due to a warmer color temperature on the 3GS. i don't think it's a defect because it's been mentioned in several online reviews. i welcome it, it's much more pleasant on my eyes, especially in the dark.

Congrats!

Crazy Moogle, stop going to the store and call 'em up.

Fido: Store > Phone
Rogers: Phone > Store

I've struck out twice but I think it's time to try again. During the last call, the hold was 15 mins long and I had to to both convince myself I shouldn't upgrade and reason myself into upgrading. I figure it doesn't matter how long my contract is because the only time I'll get off it is if I leave the country... and I'm sure someone would take it off my hands.

I just need them to extend my credits too or that would suck =[

I'm a genius.

So last night I sold my Blackberry and wiped it.. but then when I got home I screwed up my iPhone contacts and lost EVERYTHING.

So i started freaking out..

But I just ran my BB backup on a virtual Blackberry on my desktop PC.. and BAM! I got it all back and manually added them.

I'm awesome. :P

I'm interesting in buying an iPhone. Can I walk in an Apple Store and take an iPhone with me without signing a 2 year contract?

you should be able to avoid a 2 year contract (to jail) depending on how fast you run compared to the security guards who are chasing you

No more airplane mode needed to avoid speaker interference when playing music, much appreciated.

Is that because 3G signal is broadcasting in a different area of spectrum than 2G was?

Yeah, I guess it's worth a shot. Would piss me off if they get their stuff working on monday though; I think the backorder time right now is enough to push through the week.

Yep. Edge will cause audible interference with radios. I stream internet radio to my work trucks cassette player over 3G without interference, but as soon as I'm on edge the interference starts.

I'm eligible to upgrade my 3G to a 3Gs for 199 or 299 through Rogers, not sure if it's worth it yet though.. I'll probably make the jump once it gets jailbroken. Anyone know how long Rogers will have that promotion going on? Guess I'll have to call them back, I totally forgot to ask.

Are the Rebel cases worth it? They seem a little...overkill.

I love mine so far. It feels much sturdier than a standard soft case. Plus they have a unique look. If you like the look, they are worth the price imo.

I pretty much know my friends will think I'm batshit crazy for upgrading only a year later but those speed vids sold me on it. Still going through a slight bit of buyers remorse though.

I've had 2 capsule rebel cases from switcheasy, can anyone recommend their Colors line?

http://www.switcheasy.com/products/Colors/Colors.php

If only the button wasn't red, I would buy this case. Cases should do their best to blend in with the original design (or at least one model in a line should do that), not comes up with some new (and usually tacky.) It's an odd design choice in a case that otherwise comes closest to blending in well with the phone compared to others.

Yeah, I have the clear/clear and the black/red - they've totally saved my phone from 3-6ft drops at least 5 times over the last year. I'm constantly letting my phone slide around in my center console of my car and on my desk at work. After 1 yr the clear/clear case is really scratched up and starting to look more white/grey but it's done its $24.99 worth for sure. I was thinking about that incipio feather case, but honestly - theres no protection there. I might try a colors and a serpent case this time.

Oh, one bad thing about the capsule rebel - the only bad thing - the headphone port is pretty closed off, a la iPhone OG. I have to pop the top of the iphone out to get my stereo mini cable to plug in from my car to the phone.

OH GAWD, I can't take the stupid internet anymore! Everyone's freaking out because Apple hasn't approved that many push notification apps to the App Store, and everyone's going off about some conspiracy theory that Apple's still not ready and is purposefully holding apps back that feature push. Wouldn't the simple conclusion be that Apple is, has been and forever shall be SLOW to approve apps? Seriously... some people's children...

I thought the facebook app had push notifications?

Sell your 3G. Still goes for $250 or so on Craigslist. It's really a free phone with 1 year contract extension =P

Not as far as I have seen. Version 2.4 has been available for a while now and there isn't an update for it yet on the Canadian iTunes Store. Not sure about the US one.

Go into settings, then notifications. Any application listed there has push.

Facebook does not. The only app I have that does is Star Defense.

Ok, so I have to say, that this freaking phone is the greatest device I have ever owned.

I've never owned a smart phone before, and decided last week that since I recently got a good job, I'd splurge and get an iPhone since I've always wanted one. Of course I was lucky and decided this right after the 3gs was announced. Went up to my local At&t store, and pre-ordered a 16gb black 3gs. Went home, did some research and ordered a case. Got the iPhone yesterday and the case arrived the same day (pretty lucky there).

I spent all day yesterday getting apps and converting movies and just learning all the thing it could do. Today my friend and I were going apartment shopping. He had found a couple places on craigslist and scheduled times to go look for them. We arrived to the second one early, and had 30 minutes to spare. So we watched an episode of the office on my iphone. Those two places turned out to be really shitty, and we were about to call it an early day. But, I checked the app store, downloaded the apartment guide app, and had it locate apartments near our current location. We ended up finding a bunch of other apartment complexes on it, had it map it out for us and showed us pictures. Without it, we would have just given up for the day.

I also took about 70 pics of apartments and a few videos. Oh and throughout the day I was texting and answering calls.

Now I'm relaxing and listening to the cardinals game through MLB At Bat. And I still have 30% battery life.

This thing is gonna change my life, I can't believe everything it can do.

Nice impressions. I'm waiting for my 32GB model to arrive (will probably be a week), and it will be my first smartphone. Pretty excited. I love my iPod Touch, and I imagine this will be even better.

As my (non-iPhone) contract ran out with O2 a few months ago, I didnt renew it immediately as I wanted to see what Apple would annonce at WWDC and they didnt disappoint. The 3GS looks like a great buy for someone like me who has never owned an iPhone (not because of any anti-Apple sentiment - just because I already had a contract and a phone I was happy with).

Three questions for the iPhone aficionados in this thread:

1. How long did it take for the 3G contract price to drop in the UK? I dont feel a pressing need to get a 3GS at the moment and it would be interesting to see when the 3G starting dropping in price as an indicator of whether the 3GS would do the same.

2. I have been looking at the cases in this thread and this one in particular

looks fantastic. Are there any similar minimalistic cases available in the UK?

3. Has anyone had experience with a white iPhone with a case? I love the look of the white one (really stands out) but I know how much of a dust magnet white electronics are. Does the presence of a case such as the one above mitigate that to any extent?

Anyone?

Yeah same here, I got mine and it is awesome! I don't know what to do with my iPod now though.

If it's a Touch you can dedicate it entirely to media and let the iPhone handle the apps; the most useful of which require persistent data connections.

If it's a 5 or 5.5G well, as per the Law of Apple you should be upgrading around now anyway. ;)

So can anyone tell me how to get boss source back into cydia? I've deleted the source by accident and can't for the life of me figure out how to get it back. I need it back to disable Edge on my first gen phone.

First check if it doesn't reappear under more 'More Package Sources' link (found on the Cydia 'homepage'). If not, you can manually add it back by pressing on the Manage tab, then Sources, then Edit button (top right) and then Add button (top left). The url is http://apt.bigboss.us.com/repofiles/cydia

Since it's so much easier to add them now with the copy&paste functionality, can anybody recommend some more good bookmarklets for Safari? I use 'Find on this Page', 'Reload' and 'Scroll to bottom of the page' a lot and occasionally the 'Search Wikipedia' one...

Has anyone gotten dock to work on 3.0?
It installs fine, and works fine, actually a lot smoother than on 2.2 ... but as soon as I select an app to open the phone locks up and boots into safe mode.

Nice, cursing is no longer auto-corrected on OS 3.0. Used to be the word "fuck" would get auto-corrected to "duck" and would make it a pain to send certain texts. Thanks Apple :lol

Anyone else trying to play rRootage on a 3.0 3GS? I get the company's splash screen, then it goes right back to the home screen.

also, 3GS is a nod to the old Apple ][GS? eh, eh? no, probably not, actually :D

my White 16gb 3G sold for $285 today on ebay. There's a huge market for these, especially unlocked or jailbroken. (mine was neither when it sold today)

Oh my gosh guys! When I switched from the iSkin to the Speck case which shows a small peice of the silver border I thought I discovered scratches from lint getting into the iSkin case and being rubbed. I looked at it now and thought "What if I rub the scratches to even it out" and it turned out to be lint and dust! No scratches!

So if you think you have a scratch, rub it, it could be nothing :)

Yeah I might rub one out tonight.

I had no idea the aftermarket for 3G phones was so good. I just put my old 3G up on Craigslist, will be interested to see if there are any takers...
