iPod or something else?

Now I'm seriously getting an mp3 player, I REALLY dig the iPod nano, but I think its over priced...

Price and Size are determining factors.

my budget is $200, but the cheaper the better

Thanks in advance :)

$200 for 2GB flash overpriced? Or you mean $200 for 2GB, you really don't care about flash or not?

Something else...iRiver H10, 6GB, FM Tuner, removable battery, wma support. $169.00

Does it really matter what you get? I mean you'll get an mp3 player, enjoy it for a few years perhaps, technology improves, something better comes along, you need to upgrade. Eventually we all die and will end up with no mp3 player. You can't take the technology with you. Enjoy the here and now.

You're budget is pretty low considering you won $500.000

I got a 20gb IPod, I figured I could pay $200 for 2gb, $250 for 4GB or $300 for 20gb, I chose to pay the extra and get the IPod that has the space that i'd probably take years to fill up rather than one that I'd have to constantly be deleting stuff from. YMMV however.

nano
88.9 x 40.6 x 6.9 mm
42.5g

iriver
95.5 x 54.6 x 15 mm
96.2g

as for the capacity differences, I am a firm believer that if 2GB isn't enough capacity for you, 6GB won't be either. There are two types of people out there. Those who just want a bunch of songs to listen to (and 1000 I think definitely qualifies as a bunch) and those who want their collections with them. If you just want a bunch of songs to listen to, 1000 or 3000 songs probably won't matter. If you want your collection with you, 6GB for most people will generally be too small still.

The Iriver H10 is excellent, especially since the firmware has been updated and most of the problems with it have been fixed. They even got the music to sound better with the latest update. There is far less distortion in bass then there used to be.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I've got a quick question and don't want to start a brand new thread for it.

Anybody have any experience with the Rio Nitrus Sport players? I can get the 1.5GB version on eBay brand new for $80 shipped. All I want one for is for jogging/the gym. Any good?

IMO you're getting a better deal with the iPod Nano simply because it doubles as a flash drive. I really can't believe what a bargain that thing is at around $200/2GB.

$200 for 20gb is kinda reasonable, but I hate how Apple somewhat overprices their iPods just because they're... well, iPods.

I've got a 4GB nano (don't see the point in the 2GB version, considering the price gap), and I have to say that the size and weight of the device make a big difference. Hard-drive based players make me feel like I'm carrying around a brick in my pocket now that I've got the nano with me, and if, like me, you don't really need more than 4GB of space, then I cerainly advise considering the nano.

Also, if you can, use the Apple educational site, it should drop the price by a decent amount.

I hate everything Apple... The missus and I went to the grocery store last night to do our shopping for the month... anyway in the fruit section she picks up some grapes bags them, does the same for bananas and clementines... then she turns around and says... do you want an Apple? (Holding one out). I slapped the SHIT outta that Apple, must have knocked it to the other side of the store and said.. HELL TO THE NO I DON'T WANT NO DAMN APPLE!

She was of course a bit taken aback.

Are the protective cases available for the Nano yet? Will the nano fit in the armband in the protective case? I don't want a scratched all to hell Nano if I get one.

Everything looks so goddamn ulgly compared to the nano.
it doesn't get any more obvious than this. every other flash microplayer looks like ass and has an ass screen compared to the nano.

Apple are making a killing with the nano... apparently it only cost them ~$100 to make the 2GB model... it looks so good though, so hard to resist it even when I know it's a rip off.

My friend needs to format his HD, and has a regular IPod, so I had him try to copy something from his IPod to his HD, and it worked, so he'll be having his IPod double as a backup while his HD is getting reformatted. It's a hard drive rather than flash, but it works.

Why in the blue fuck would they ship the thing with a Dock Adaptor that does not adapt to any dock out there?
I have an iPod dock (4th Gen), I have a Nano adpator - The two objects don't go together.
This is opposite to what I was lead to believe from various review sites.

$30 for the armband = Typical Apple. Fine.
Is doesn't protect the screen at all. It's quite flimsy. It feels like $3.
Great fit for upper arm use + Sony Fontopias though, what with the Fontopia two-piece short cord.

it is a hard drive. no way in hell you could stick 5GB of flash in a system for $200 retail.

How is it a rip off? 2 gigs of flash storage, a color, backlit screen, and a form factor that can not be matched. WTF do you people want?

EDIT: some of you remind me of this cheap son of a bitch I work with.

I'll buy a gamecube when it is $79.99 with 4 controllers and two free games!

:lol

the only features i care about are:

a) it plays my songs without a hitch
b) good interface
c) excellent form factor

i understand the only way the other guys can compete is by loading theirs up with more features, but i just don't understand the desire for stuff like gapless and fm tuner. who listens to the radio? you have thousands of songs you like at your request...

a, b, and c are ipod all the way, and that's why the thing sells like sex on campus. that being said, I would love gapless. gaps annoy the hell out of me. just not enough for me to not choose an ipod, though if iPod has gapless I would love it.

Sometimes I like to listen to the radio just for a change of things. Sure, alot of radio stations suck but there's a couple that are alright than my opinion. :) Also depending on where you're at and all.

Wow, I just read up on that gapless shit, and to be honest, I never really noticed an added 'gap' on my iPod. :lol It's amazing what people can find to bitch about.
