New U2 ipod is way cool but it doesn't include the entire back library of U2 as previously speculated, instead it comes with a $50 coupon off of their back library plus 25 bonus tracks which retails at $150 from the apple store.

Standard Apple business practice - If they are willing to pay, charge it :D

They sold 2 million iPods last quarter alone. It is widely speculated that they will not have enough to meet demand for this holiday season. Why have a lower price point?

Looks good, but I just won an iPod last night (thank-you Pepsi) so I definitely won't be considering one of these photo iPods anytime soon (price is too hefty anyway). :D

$499?

Whoever buys one of these over an Archos Jukebox needs a lobotomy...and not the Powerslave kind.

Would've been really cool if they added the ability to sync photos from a digital camera like one of the other players out there.

Am I the only person who was quick to assume that the iPod Photo, you know, took pictures?

I mean, jeesh, at that price, it should.

The iPodPhoto is pretty sweet. I love that you can carry around all your music and bring your whole photo album in a litte iPod. It'll be pretty nice to do TV slide shows for the relatives off an iPod.

That black and red color combination is beautiful. Stupid U2 sigs on the back...

EDIT: Looking over it again, the red is too bright, methinks. Just a little darker, and it'd be perfect.

I heard from a friend that the Belkin Reader sucks power like crazy. So it's really cop-out.

C'mon, Apple. Why can't you have the features that iRiver had 9 months ago? :(

Not really, unless you have it downloading images all night long. If you've got an older iPod with a low capacity battery then yes, but any modern iPod with at least 6-8 hours of battery is likely to last about as long as your camera. We have one on my generation 40 gig ipod. I replaced the battery with a high capacity battery and we never had any problems at all.

The black and red iPod is fugly. When they announced a black one, I was all, "HELL YES!" But the red is so bad...ick. The photo iPod looks really nifty, though. I probably won't be in the market for another iPod for 2-3 years yet.

At that price it should record 5 hours of high def video.

Umm ok you can show people pictures....but I can just carry around my camera and memory card and do that as well and take pics too!

I love my iPod but I see no use for one that can show pics

I kind of like the red click-wheel on the U2 iPod.

As for the photo iPods, I find them pretty useless.
It's nice, but not worth the extra $$.

The 5G iPods that will come out next year will probably have color screens/photo syncing as standard features.
I personally think that Apple should've just released a 'regular' 60GB iPod then saved the color LCDs, photo-syncing features entirely for the 5G.

Also, I don't know what we ever did to Apple, but they don't seem to like Canada.
Still no iTunes for us, and the prices for the new iPods are fucked up.
$799CDN for the 60GB iPod photo (while it sells for $599USD).
By today's Canadian dollar, $799CDN = ~$650USD.

What is this Archos Jukebox? Is it less expensive? I would be interested in buying an mp3 player if they weren't so damned expensive.

Man, I would love the 40 GB iPod Photo.

I have the 30 GB right now, which was $500. And I have the Best Buy service plan. Hopefully my iPod breaks soon.

Hang out with Steve.
My wife just got a 6.1Mp digital SLR camera for her birthday. I'm going to pick up a 40GB model iPod Photo and one of those Belkin card readers for her for Christmas.

I've got a 20gig 3rd gen sitting in its dock as the main component in my home stereo - I'd really love to have a colour screen with the album art showing.

I like the black on the U2 Ipod, but I don't like the red wheel. For $349 to not even have the new album on it is kinda lame. I guess I'll keep my old Ipod.

Can't you just throw it against the wall, and and let Best Buy replace it for you, no questions asked?

I thought that's how these service plans worked.

You know you can't live without one. It's aesthetic perfection.
