ipod shuffle questions

I'm planning on picking up an ipod shuffle tomorrow. Does anyone know if I can use this like any other usb flash drive? I'm wanting to make sure I can store normal files and hopefully even boot my computer from it. Also do you have to use itunes to put songs on the thing? I'd much rather be able to just drag and drop my music into it.

Also before people start telling me that ipod's are crap, I'm all ears if you can recommend another player with the size, cost, and rechargeable battery built in.

Thanks for any help.

You dont need to use creative's software at all. Whats worse, using Itunes or should i say being forced to use itunes. And or being able to use your mp3 player without software just plug and play drop files and off you go.

PS for the money you get some nice extra features as well. Name another 1gb flash mp3 player with all that in it

BZ I'll look into that Muvo TX looks pretty sweet, and has FM radio (not that there's much to listen to on the radio). I wish it had rechargeable battery but could deal with it. Couple of questions, first is the sound quality better than the ipod and second does best buy carry them (my old lady is making me use the gift cards).

Also off topic but who the hell gives gift cards anyway. No more thought goes into it than cash and it's far less useable. I will never understand that.

Their software is atrocious. Dark brought a Creative player by once and my PC still has broken Creative links on it.

THEY WILL NOT GO AWAY

I agree, Creative's software is crap, but you don't need to install a single thing to use the Muvo. Plug it into a USB port, Windows recognizes it as a flash drive, and you drop your MP3 files onto it. You're not limited to a single piece of software. <cough>

Yeah, you should be able to find one at Best Buys. Circuit City, Fry's, Wal-mart, and just about every other place has them, so I imagine they would. And I agree, I hate gift cards. It's like cash, only you're fricken' stuck using it at one place.

they're is a place that for 5 bucks (for ever 100) will transfer you giftcard to another store, or for 10 put your money into paypal. Dont remember the site offhand currently though. The shuffle needs Itunes for music no?

1 AAA batter? Boo-urns.

I just use rechargables. It's actually kind of nice - if it ever runs out of juice (especially if on the go), I just plop in another battery and don't have to wait for it to recharge.

*shrug* I just plug my iPod in every night and I never have issues. And in the rare long trip, car charger + iPod = happiness.

Itunes is the reason why Ipod is the best mp3 player around. Itunes > having 9 million folders for all of your music.

i might have 400+ music folders but all be damned i've yet to need Itunes. But this guy wants a flash drive too. So i just posted the best alternative. Plus no one knows the battery life of the shuffle it could be like the ipods then you'd be fucked.

But thats just my opinion. I cant wait for the new shuffle. New battery Get

I'm not a big fan of the shuffle and the main reason is that there is no screen. I like looking at what song I'm going to be listening, or just browsing quickly through songs (by their names) and listening to a specific one. My friend has that Creative Labs one and it kicks ass, I would rather pick one of those up rather than a shuffle.
