Iron Phoenix demo (OXM)

I got the OXM with this demo on it and it completely caught me by surprise. I hadn't even heard of this game. It's like Samurai Warriors mixed in with a little Shinobi and without hundreds of NPCs running around killing each other. It's very easy to pick up, but also has some depth with the combo system. Aside from running around killing, you can run on walls, double jump, dash around like a ninja on the ground and a bit in the air. It's not quite GUNVALKYRIE or Otogi but, it does remind me of those games. The combat gets pretty crazy. My friend was taking out groups of 3 to 6 people at a time with his special combos. Real people playing on Xbox Live. I thought it was pretty cool.

This game rocks and it wipes the floor with Phantom Dust. My friend and I had a lot of fun with it. I might have to buy it. I know he will.

I liked it ALOT. Sort of Soul Calibur online. Has wall running, combos like you said, weapon based fighting, well modeled characters. I couldn't find anyone to play with though so put me on your friends list.

The Iron Phoenix demo is System Link as well...As for a complete demo list...

Star Wars: Republic Commando
Ghost Recon 2
Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball
MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf- Live Enabled
Iron Phoenix- Live Enabled
FIFA 2005- Live Enabled

This sounds like a pretty solid demo. Still, I can't help but feel like a moron paying $10 for a magazine.

Glad to hear good impressions, I've been wanting this game for awhile. Seems like it would be a blast on LIVE. Is there a solid release date yet?

The demo is accessible via the menu system... haven't tried it yet myself. Republic Commando is going to be a must buy. Spent 15-20 minutes on the paintball demo trying to figure out why it was so popular.... I still don't have any answers.

System Link also supports bots, which is available in the demo and you can set it so you can have 1 human player and the rest CPU players. Which is good, because there weren't any available games on XBL when I loaded up the demo tonight.

I didn't spend a lot of time getting to know all the control possibilities, but from what I could decipher and from what I could see the bots pulling off, it seems to have some potential. It needs polish though and hopefully it will get that before the full release. The controls need to be a bit more responsive and precise. Wall running is glitchy. Targeting needs to be improved. If it doesn't change much from its current state in the demo, I'm afraid it'll probably languish in mediocre reviews which would be a shame.

Iron Phoenix reminds me a bit of a fusion between Heavy Metal: Geomatrix and a Dynasty Warriors game. I like that you can run up/on walls, too.

I don't know how many players can play at one time online, but when I tried a game with 15 bots, it was pretty much unplayable (major framerate issues) and far too chaotic. Eight was better, but still too chaotic. However, this was only free-for-all matches; team play seems like it would work better, assuming you can't hit your teammates.

This game is nothing like Phantom Dust. If anything, Iron Phoenix seems more comparable to Unreal Championship 2, just without the guns and nowhere near as cool-looking. At this stage in the game's development, I just don't see it being very popular and catching on with Xbox Live players. UC2 is going to kill it.
