Is necroing threads frowned on around here?

For instance, I really need to give Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier a good kicking, as its a vile piece of inept design and giving it a darn good beating is a righteous thing to do. To do that I either need to make a new thread, or resurrect an existing thread, of which there are none post-2009 or thereabouts.

So just wanted to check what the etiquette is here.

IMO it depends on the content of the thread. AKA if it's a troll thread or not. and OT is perfectly fine to necro I think.

I wanted to pump the "Xbox is power king" thread so bad but apparently it was locked for replies.

So I guess it was frowned upon

It used to be frowned upon but I haven't seen it actioned in ages beyond just closing the thread. That being said, I personally find it annoying, so my advice is to just make another thread to talk about it, as many members will do when they want to discuss an older game, and often times they'll place a LTTP before the thread title to indicate that they're "late to the party", though that's not necessarily required either, just kind of a thing folks often do here. I guess use your best judgement, but I'd just make a new thread.

New thread. LTTP (Late to the Party) or RTTP (Return to the Party) prefixes, or Retro if going far enough back, help provide context. Preferably have something substantial or interesting to say.

You would make a new thread in such a case OP. You should only necro a thread if it is, say, an update to something in an old thread.

I always thought that if there's a thread already for a thing you're supposed to search for an comment on said thread vs creating a new thread…which would mean sometimes a necro bump.

If it's something that hasn't been talked about in 'quite a long while' but you have new info about it. Necro it.
Forgotten game in development that gets a new trailer? Necro it.

no. it's a forum. use threads to talk about what you want.
These are useless kilobytes. Nobody is hurt if you post in 2005 thread

Also, bruh, you've been a member for 13 years. Shouldn't you have a better idea of what's tolerated round these parts?

Trust one of these posts OP.

As long as it's not an old news story and I reply as if it was from this decade looking like an idiot ...
then I don't mind necro bumps

The problem i see everytime someone does a necro, is that you end up having alot of users replying and quoting 5 or more year old replies as if they where posted recently as they dont pay atention to the date the reply was posted. So you end with a weird thread where you have ppl in 2025 trying to correct what someone said ages ago.
