Is the proper washroom etiquette

I joined a higher end health club/gym a while ago and its alright. But whenever I go to wash my hands I notice all the older gentelmen are nude while shaving. Their cranks are touching the edge of the sink/countertop. These guys are about 5' tall. So I'm like ok I try and wash my hands with my butt out a little to avoid the sink/countertop edge. Anyways I have noticed a couple of 6'+ guys who are significantly taller and their cranks are hovering above the sinktop while shaving/washing hands nude. WTF.

So what is the proper etiquette in response? Do you cough, point, stare? I am tempted to write a complaint, but is this what people do?

Just grab a bunch of clean towels, cotton or paper, and pile them on the edge of the counter. The environment won't thank you, but your aversion to cawk cooties will.

It's the same everywhere. The old guys just don't give a fuck.

Be thankful they're not "accidentally" brushing up against your back while you're changing.

It is what men do apparently, especially older ones in country club or health club locker rooms. Never understood why, older guys just relish the chance to hang around naked I guess. Surprised they don't just piss in the sink as well.

The Dupont Circle hardbodies at the gym I used to attend would do this... To each their own. For me, it's like the subway, don't look anyone in the eye, keep your head down, do your business and get the fuck out.

I miss the days of GAF that had more funny yet honest topics like this... IMO, the quality of topics has waned over the past few years.

Ugh. Thank god 95% of the people don't use the showers (and never shave) where I workout.

I'll have to remember mention that the next time my buddy asks why I don't go to a different gym. Because it's a damn good reason.

When I was 9, my Cub Scouts den/group/whatever it was called went to a public pool. I have not yet recovered from the multitude of old naked men I saw in the locker room..

I won't even use the shower facility at the place I work out. Oh they're fine, clean and everything, but i still wonder just what's been on the ground and all that. So I just wait till I get home to shower.

Same here. In the winter and the cooler parts of the fall and spring, I barely even sweat when I workout (as long as I don't do cardio), so I'll just throw on a clean shirt, put on some deoderant, and I'm good to go for the rest of the day.

Dude, just bring sandles or flip flops. Bare feet is bad. Shoes for the shower...good.

Oh, and make sure your towel is close. Someone snagging the towel from your stall and you having to walk across the entire gym wet and nude isn't the most fun after a good workout.

I know I'm not high-class, but why the Hell would people shave at their gym club? Do these people not have homes or is it the thrill of standing with other naked men?

I was wondering too, but I'm assuming that if you get up early and go to the gym, you might just shower and shave there before going to work.

This was my first thought too. I most certainly would not stay a member of this gym.

^^

Its a good mix of professionals and hot chicks as opposed to juicers and old/obese people. And its got the best equipment for the price.

I only use the changing facilities to wash my hands, so its a fair trade off I think.

I just wanted to know if shaving nude in public was normal and it seems to be quite abnormal - and that a lot of people just look away.

I guess it's convenient for them.

What time do they go? If it's like in the morning I can see it. I always shower and all that after working out at home though. I'd rather keep all my supplies at home rather than tote them around.
