Is the Radeon X850 any good?

I need a new video card and I'm not up on the latest batch.

The one I'm looking at is a 256 MB AGP card.

I'm running a P4 2.4 ghz processor but I'm limping along with my ancient Radeon 7000.

I am also interested in this card. I will be upgrading this summer and cannot determine whether i should get an ATI X850 XT Platinum Edition or Geforce 6800 Ultra. Both will be AGP compatible not PCI-E, as whatever card i get must work within my 2 year old dell case. I'm open to anyone's opinions or suggestions.

I would recomend going for the X800XT, its cheaper and the difference in performance between it and the X850XT is miniscule.

Goin from a 7000 to an X850XT?

Heh.. Id reckon you're gonna notice a difference. That's like 4 generations of cards right there.

Oh, and you're gonna be cpu limited. I hope you know that.

X700 is only 200 bucks. Spend the money you'll save and buy all the PC titles that are currently worthwhile.

((and still have 100 bucks left over))

I'd recommend the X850. it's, like $50 more than the X800XT. If you're gonna spend $400 on a video card, you might as well spend the extra $45! :lol

Why are you :lol ? I have the X850XT and previously owned the X800XT. I get if i am lucky less than 5fps more with this card. For $50 it aint worth it.

Don't get the x850XT

Your CPU is too slow to even take advantage of the increased speeds etc. I reckon a x700/x800 (Pro/XL) will be the most you can get out of your system. And this hurts to say an an ATi fanboy, but the 6600(GT)is the best value you can get with a graphics card ATM.
