So 1 and a half years ago I fell asleep in this bar and got my ass dragged into an alleyway and beaten unconcious by the bars owner and his friend. I did my duty and reported it to the cops and lo and behold the system works. Kind of. The case is going ahead, but only as an assault on my friend who got headbutted inside the bar, due to there being witnesses.

I've never been to court (this is new zealand court) and it's the preliminary hearing to decide if it goes to trial. Can anyone tell me what to expect?

Wait till I introduce my wang to the defense councils forhead. That'll show him.

Also, this means that basically all my personal information will be given to the angry guy that kicked my ass correct? They are going to say something like "can you confirm for the court that you are catfish of 69 Wallaby way" etc? If this guy is fucking crazy, and he is, what's to stop him coming to my uninsured house to kick me in the balls then rob me if he gets not guilty?

I think the incident needs to be explained more. How did you come to get a beatdown if you'd just fallen asleep at the bar?

If the defendants are found not guilty, call this man to finish the job properly.

I'm sure you could state that you are uncomfortable stating your place of residence but would be happy to show ID to the council and the judge, or something like that.

he woke me up by shaking the shit out of me, and I kind of woke up and mumbled "fck off nfhghg" and gave him the finger. thinking he was just some rugby head dick because he was dressed casually.

Then he yelled "fuck this shit, you cunts are dead" tipped all our beers all over us and threw the table out of the way at which point me and my friend did the "Ok ok we're leaving" then my other friend says "yeah calm down" at which point he headbutted him and then they dragged me out the back and my 2 friends out the front.

Then him and his mate beat me unconcious, gave me a concussion and then dumped me on the street and then decked my friend who came over to help. Then I threw up from the headache I had.

Most important is to get your facts straight.
But if you're unsure about some details, don't make them up.
Provide the details you remember clearly.

You want to make a solid case. Relevant details and consistency are key.

Pretend you can't speak English.

If that fails, show 'em your Ph.D. in Forensic Science and introduce yourself as Dr. Grissom.

Isn't there a prosecutor assigned to your case? He should have prepped you as far as what to expect and what to say and what not to say. I don't really know anything about New Zealand courts so I can't say what you can expect when you go in there. What exactly are you testifying to?

Just remember that whatever you say will go on the record and if you fuck it up they can use that to impeach you later on and hurt your credibility.

back from court now, fucking delayed till 30th of june. Got to look at one of the guys that bashed me though. He's huge and was sweating profusely.

Then as we were leaving court, this other dude going to court opened his wallet on the way in and didn't notice that he dropped his marijuana on the ground. We snagged it and got home at 11.30am for a beer, smoke and a laugh. Also found out the guy lost his bar manager license as a result of my and someone elses case.

All in all a ripper of a day.

Sounds like the owner got what was coming to him regardless of the future outcome.

yup as far as I'm concerned I've already had some payback, according to the police though, if I was able to press charges over my assault rather than the headbutt on my friend (which is the whole case) this guy could have faced 7 years in the clink. But because of no witnesses and not able to identify the other guy, that was a no go.

But my concussion for his loss of his bar is a fair swap I reckon.

Yeah, get ready to fork over some major $$$ to cover "court-fees." I spent five minutes in court, cost me $50. The fine the judge handed down was only a fucking dollar, too. What a goddamn rip-off.

pretty sure no court fees when you are a witness/plaintiff in NZ. Defendant is getting FUCKED though, he's got a flash lawyer and all, that costs heaps.

Oh and his name is RODNEY. Owned.
