I've never understood the appeal of buying DBZ episodes. I could understand buying the manga, since Toriyama is an excellent artist, but the anime was usually under-budgeted shit with bad animation and eye-burningly bright technicolors.

Nice... No news about a blu-ray release though I take it...

Fuck it though, it was only done in 16mm, I'll buy this. It'll be the first time I've bought any home video DBZ stuff.

You must be referring to Funimation's version prior to the Dragon Box. They messed with the colors big time, often over-saturating them to the extreme.

To say that this announcement came out of nowhere is an understatement. I am literally....literally SHOCKED at this news. This news is so big it broke daizenshuu ex's site(go check)!

I wasn't going to ever touch those bastardized cropped versions of the show anyway, since I had already spent a small fortune a couple years ago on the earlier various releases. But this news makes that boycott all the much sweeter!

My jaw has seriously dropped at this news. Who knew Funimation would finally listen to their fans and make this decision? It's incredible. Those of you who know me know I'm a huge DBZ fan and that I came *this* close to spending thousands of dollars importing the original Dragon Box from Japan. And now I can finally sleep good at night knowing I will finally get this magnificent set in English!

Way to go Funi. You guys really blew my mind with this one!

This would be great if there was a blu ray version. Enough with the fucking DVD releases already, Funimation.

This is the type of thinking I'm sure led to the fucking remastered bullshit. 4:3 remastered dvds are fine now hush.

There's no downside to having things in a format where it can use better codecs at higher bitrates. Conflating that with some wish for an altered version or changed aspect ratio is bogus.

Not really bad, just kinda seems like a waste of time for me. Would have been a different story if they just re-animated it, but the moments where they try to add in some spots of new animation just seem so jarring to me.

I just figured I might as well just buy the original.

The irony is that DBZ itself epitomizes the phrase "waste of time".

people still care about dbz?

DragonBall is still one of the most popular anime franchises worldwide. We wouldn't be getting games, toys, movies, tissue holders, etc. if it wasn't.
