I've been replaying Red Dead Redemption 2 for the past two weeks and I have a few things to say

First of all, disclaimer, if you are planning to play on pc this game, there is a mod that I consider essential, it's called Stutter Fix and it fixes issues that Rockstar introduced in some updates and never bothered to fix it like popping when turning the camera fast or stutter in certain areas like Saint Dennis and so on. It's sad that Rockstar doesn't care

Anyway I am not going to say anything that hasn't been told yet about this game, the game is absolutely fantastic, a masterpiece, it has a great open world, alive and recreated with such care that it's almost scary.

The animal kingdom representation in this game is so fucking real man, I can't imagine how difficult must have been for the developers to do something like this. Using the binoculars and seeing a wolf hunting a deer with such realism is crazy. I love as well how good the encounters and side stories are, they feel so organic and really help to feel immersed in the world

The dialogues, the story and characters are fantastically written, this is on another league compared to most modern games slops we get nowadays and one thing that really helps is that everything is mocap, even gameplay animations or random conversations with npcs. I can't stress this enough, every movement and animation is done with care and it's something that many games nowadays are missing unfortunately, recent examples AC Shadows and Yotei.

As for the gameplay, yes, it feels sluggish at times although there are a couple of mods that fix this problem, one of them gives you more speed transitions between walking, jogging and running which makes the movement much more accurate and there is another one that allows you to walk, jog and run just by moving the joystick forward like most games. These two mods can be a game changer and honestly I don't understand how Rockstar didn't implement it as an option at least

As for the graphics, the game still looks really good, the environments, the physics, the weather system and the world in general look very photo realistic and beautiful. Textures are showing his age as well as characters, their hair and faces are not as detailed although their facial animations and voice acting are so good that it feels like it compensates this issue.

One thing I miss while playing is a little bit more of freedom during missions. The game during missions doesn't let you approach the gameplay with many options, it feels quite on rails. It's not a big deal but I hope that GTA6 will give us more options in this regard

Anyway, after 7 years since launch, the game totally holds up and even more with a few mods. I have a list that works really well so if anyone wants it I can post it here, but yeah, please play this game, its a wonderful experience and the ending hits really hard

Thanks for reading papitos, cheers.

I just couldn't get into the game and found it really boring. The writing characters and all that weren't great to me it was just boring. The shooting\combat was fun but I felt like there were barely any missions that involved that sort of stuff and when I did have those missions they were short.

I started RDR1 and it already seems better from a story stand point and characters also. The are more missions involving combat and they are fun and aren't as quick. I tried really hard to get into RDR2 but I dropped it in like Chapter 3.

Game looks so damn beautiful, but I wish they'd do a complete overhaul mod of the controls. JFC these controls make no sense. I'm supposed to hold X to move/ride, then tap X to go faster/keep up while riding…. But you have to press L1 to slow down, not slowing your tapping. It's like QTE type inputs when there's no QTE. Who came up with this egregious gameplay? I just can't. Sounds like the mods you got help some though.

I think it's a 10/10 presentation and world but the gameplay and mission design are fucking dreadful in my opinion. The mission design especially did the game in for me, it's just not my cup.

This game is the equivalent of putting a $8k wrap on a 1999 Altima.

I tried playing RDR2 before and it felt a bit of a slog. I just started playing the first game recently with the remaster and it somehow feels a bit more accessible than the second one. The second one clearly has better graphics though.

The mission design was entirely why it wasn't my GOTY when the game came out. Enjoyed the game quite a lot, but missions just auto failing you for slightly veering off the intended path just ain't it.

The game rewards you for your patience. It's not an instant dopamine hit, it takes time and investment but once it clicks you can't stop. I love that, specially in this time and age where people just want instant rewards without anny effort

I actually love the game, but it's in spite of the shit gameplay, convoluted control system, and terrible mission structure. That's a testament to how great the world and characters are that I was willing to deal with that stuff in order to play it.

I don't think those two things have been surpassed in the time since either. Those parts absolutely stand the test of time and will continue to do so.

I played it for 60 hours somehow despite hating it lol so yea, same. I had just come off a MGSV addiction and Supraland so the gameplay and missions were insanely jarring to me. It's like having the hottest woman ever in bed but she shits herself every time you're about to get it on.

The first game is so much better than the second, it's not even funny.

I think that's what I liked about it the most and caused me to invest over 1500 hours into it. It was a nice change of pace for me. Soothing.

Arthur is also one of the greatest protagonists of all time, not just in gaming, IMO.

This game is an immense achievement.

At least once every year I will consider a full replay, but for now I'd rather preserve the memory of playing for the first time.

Experiencing the game at launch felt like the impossible, as if it had been beamed down from the future.

One of my gaming sins. Didn't finish it. Played quite a bit, probably near the end, but somehow got bored at the time and never played it again, since I sold it.

Was probably not in the mood at the time, because I've pushed myself to finish way worse games than this.

I'm waiting for a remaster in order to tackle it again.

That, or I'll just binge it on PC eventually.

Truly an epic masterpiece that I believe won't ever be touched, at least in my lifetime. I fire it up at least a few times a year and every single time I'm floored by its presentation and get sucked right back into the time period and that world. And every single time I experience something that I have never ever seen before. I posted this pic in a previous thread years ago also glowing about it and I still stand by the fact that this is the only game world I can put myself in and feel like I actually fucking smell it.

Actually you can just "remaster" the game with a few texture mods, the game still holds up really well. My only wish for a future remaster would be RT Global illumination, RT Shadows and RT reflections for the water. It would make the game look even better

I have never had an issue with the controls, that said, they made Red Dead Online much more responsive, and I always thought they should have added an option in single player to use RDO's controls, since it obviously turned away a lot of people.

Surprised there's no mods that just import the controls from RDO.

It's a safe bet those might be some of the additions when R* finally releases it. Much like they did with GTA5.

This is true, in this playthrough, I have discovered encounters and situations that I didn't find back when I played it at release. The open world is really unpredictable, you never know what's going to happen and what you'll find.

I love it man

I feel like if I play RDR1 I may actually care about the character enough to invest in 2, but just having gone straight to 2 it didn't do it for me.

I've been putting a few hours on PC, I started it when it was released on PS4 but didn't get too far. Decided to give it a second chance but other games have distracted me.

Do you recommend any other mods?

I recommend you a few, but it depends too on your computer, if its powerful enough to handle it. Here is a screenshot of my mod list, everything is mostly vanilla but with improvements

Its mostly upscaled textures and quality of life improvements, nothing too crazy

And this one is in my opinion mandatory
