Me and Folder at Doree/Kyotto Mecca's 21st last year. He's only just put the photos up. The irony is, that his 22nd is only a few days away...

I had my first go of the DS this week.

The main unit is too big and clunky...they need to revise it the way they did the GBASP - but I have to admit, the touch screen is quite fun and I was grinning when I was playing WarioWare - redesign it with a smaller footprint and I'll be intrested. Which isn't a bash at Nintendo...as having played the PSP - I'll be passing on that as well - it's simply too large for pocket size - Sony went overkill with that puppy's screen.

good call. Both of them are too big for normal pockets...

that interview is SO old anyhow. Iwata talks about DS and PSP sales and how DS will sell on par / well/ out.. Which has been proven false for the last what? ... 5 weeks? If its from the TOUCH ME europe event.. why is it out only now?

“There are two things here you need to understand,” asserts the Nintendo president. “Number one; Sales of the DS have never slowed, even with the launch of the PSP. And the second thing is; even though Sony claims it would have sold more given one circumstance or another, the situation is pretty much similar with the DS. At various points, if we had have had more product on store shelves, we would be boasting even bigger sales than we are today. So that argument from Sony is invalid.” Tough talking indeed.

owned.

There's also nothing new to the interview. It seems like they just paraphrased a bunch of stuff we know and made it up.

, I’d be happy to reveal to you the full details of what the Revolution actually is. But this is not the case right now so I have to refrain from divulging specifics. My apologies. However, I will tell you that the Nintendo DS is the key indication for what Nintendo really wants to do with the Revolution. We really want to come up with a great new idea which will be accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of age or gender. That trick has to be there for the Revolution.”

Can the rev have touchscreen? Doubt it
Can the rev have dual screen? No

This will be interesting to see.

Wow! Superdetective Odnetnin!

Regardless of who my friends are (just so we get this out in the open, I'm friends with Johnny of MCV, Adam of Kikizo, Pat of Eurogamer, Stef of Spong and quite a few editors of mags and sites, because shit just tends to work out that way among likeminded who see each other a lot at industry dos) this is a good interview with good information shared. If you disagree, then good for you.

What a bunch of crap.

1) Japanese weekly sales would beg to differ. The DS has slowed. That's a fact. Whether or not that's bad or normal is yet to be seen. But you can't deny that it's slowed ALOT.

2) Regarding supply problems. The DS is on shelves and just sitting there, so while they may have captured some more sales by people who wanted it then, it's not even in the same realm of scarcity that the PSP has faced, where there ARE NONE on store shelves for more than a couple of days.

Pathetic arguments. I expect alot more from the head of Nintendo to offer up these ridiculous excuses and expecting us to buy them. The DS is doing well and I don't think he needs to make any excuses, but by doing those two up above, he just portrays Nintendo as being deathly afraid of the perception that the PSP is overtaking the DS.

It all depends on the context. If this interview is weeks old, which wouldn't surprise me, he'd be right. By rights PSP would have been having the beginning of it's launch high, and Nintendo DS would be coping just fine without having dropped week on week. The PSP would have just come out and thanks to shortages had a less rapid uptake than the DS. The picture would have looked more rosy for Nintendo than it does as the weeks go by. Even then, it's still around the 30k mark. Even if GBA is cannablising sales a little, it's all Nintendo money and marketshare.

And we have to remember who Iwata is. He's Yamauchi's replacement :lol You expect defeatism??

Can this really be the case. “Well, [laughs] if there was no way our competitors would find out, I’d be happy to reveal to you the full details of what the Revolution actually is.

Big mistake on Iwata's part thinking Sony is going to build the PS3 around just enhanced graphics and a all-in-one media center.

The event was only a shade over two weeks ago. And yes that is where the interview was done. I don't see the problem personally.

That is not strictly true.

DS sales have slowed to the point the GBA SP was selling in the Summer of last year.

If anything, the DS is doing relatively better because of the existence of the SP and the PSP.
