Jade Empire Demo...

djtiesto

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
So, I got the Jade Empire demo for Xbox cuz I heard someone say "this will be the RPG of 2005" or something... curious, I checked it out. Am I missing something? Aside from getting some experience points when I defeated a guy, this game played more like a slow-paced Prince of Persia... Is this what Xbox fans consider RPGs?? (I actually was wishing for Fable after playing through the demo!) Low framerate, rather plain graphics... Granted, the demo was like 2 minutes long, but the combat makes me wish for turn based. PLEASE tell me that the actual game will be somewhat better...

I think I'll stick with Baten Kaitos and BOFV for now...

I just hope the demo had a VERY early version of the fighting system. It felt like doing different attacks didn't really matter, making for a slow-paced button masher.

But Jade Empire is developed by Bioware, so I'm more than willing to overlook the boring demo and see how the final version fares.

Well, considering its scores and impressions so far, I certainly hope so. But even if were bad, I'm sure Xbox fans haven't deluded themselves into liking any old Xbox RPG (one or two are RPG of the year nominees) any more than PS2 fans think Killzone is an adequate replacement for Halo.

Because people suck.

Spot the Blackisle game!

(in all honesty Planescape, IWD, IWD2 should all be up there)

But still Bioware>Blackisle

That's cuz Gamerankings doesn't cover 16 bit and earlier.

I still think that list is pretty piss poor.

i played the demo too and was also a little disappointed, but maybe mostly by its length- there wasn't enough time to really get a feel for the different styles. what was more disappointing was that's all the demo really was- just the fighting. this game is going to have a lot more to it than the fighting. its so difficult when a game gets hyped as much as this one has- its hard not to have unbelievable high expectations. hopefully it won't suck.

Demo sucked. Have high hopes for the final version. I hope the combat is a little more fine tuned than what I played in the demo.

Bioware does indeed make fantastic games but that list from gamerankings is horrible. Some of those games shouldn't be in anyones top 100 list let alone a top 10 list. Chrono Cross, Vagrant story, both are games that blow out on presentation but have shitty or monotonous gameplay that only anal people would enjoy.

Yes, I too think the demo sucked, but it only shows a combat sequence, so it isn't at all descriptive of the whole game. I suggest to wait and see. However, I preferred KOTOR's real time/turn based mixture combat mechanics.

I found the demo very odd...But OXM gave the final game a 9.4, so I'm assuming that the final game is very different. I think the demo was there just to experience the fighting system, and the fighting system alone. So I'll give it a try in April most likely.

But still, with a pseudo fighting game style, what exactly makes this game an RPG? Perhaps action RPG would be a better term? Oh well, I have enough PS2 RPGs to play anyways.

RPG because the town sections are much like KOTOR and there's a level up system.

and yeah Bioware is better than Black Isle. Black Isle always had better writers, but in everything else they were inferior to Bioware and Bioware's own writing staff was really damn good.

Looking Glss studio went belly up they must have been a crappy developer too.

Oh wait.

Jade Empire is more than likely one hell of a game. But that demo didn't help the game at all. I don't know why console developers/publishers offer such pint sized crappy demos for games. Hell, Bioware should know better about making a good demo to sell a game. If they didn't have time to offer a quality demo they shouldn't have made on at all or wait until they had time to make a good one. The game may be great, but the demo is something people can play and it leaves a bad taste in the mouth!
