Gah. Jump! Super Stars has quite the competition... :(

Some people got their copies early. Do those sales still count for the week of 8/8 or what?

They'll drop. And Nintendo games almost always go up during weekends.

What kind of moron would get Taiko Drum Master on PSP. The whole point/gimmick of it was just lost.

2. PS2 Summon Night EX Thesis: Yoake no Tsubasa (Banpresto)
3. PS2 Grandia III (Square Enix)

surprise for me...SN first shipment was like 180k (iirc)....

Btw, weekend charts doesnt count as much as this one, the big sales are on Thursday.

Rockman Dash am cry.

Nice to see Pokemon XD on there, if only for a bit...

Time to prepare for next week's JSS onslaught.

And finally... go WE9!

What is Power Pocket Koushien for DS?

This week has many heavy launch titles! I impressed by Summon Night sell better than Grandia III.

It's good see Rockman Dash doing a good start, for a remake.

And, at last, I doubt that Jump Super Star will conquer the first place from W11 9. The better that JSS can sell, will not be more than W11 9.

Hmm..., it's behind the Gentle Brain Training, so it probably sould less then 5k on it's first day(and probably less then 10k for the first week), is that really a good start?

It will definitely conquer first place on 8/8(even if it would only sell ~50k for example on its first day, it would be on top) and probably at least the next one or two days, perhaps it'll have the better legs.

Aw, Mario Baseball got massacred into 16th place. :(

Those Pokemon XD sales don't seem too impressive if Winning 11, which has been out for a while, is beating it.

WE11 came out on 8/4 I think.

Edit: damn, i meant Winning Eleven 9 not 11.

I think Pokemon XD will eventually outsell Summon Night and Grandia III. It'll probably top biohazard 4 for the top selling GC game so far this year.

Wasn't there a Pokemon XD bundle in Japan?

I'm not sure if the true numbers are reflected in the software sales, we might have to wait for hardware numbers to get an accurate number for Pokemon XD. Same thing happened with Tales of Symphonia, alot of people were dissapointed in the numbers not realize there was an extra 100k in sales from the bundle.

Even stuff that will continue sitting in the top lists for months routinely get bumped down on new release days.

Guh? Hasn't there been a Winning 11 on the PS2 and GC for quite a while now? Or was that a previous version?

Winning Eleven is the name of the series. Winning Eleven Nine was just released

And we're sure JSS will do well?
If it bombs this forum is going to go nucking futs.

Well, Nintendo is shipping 300,000 of them in its first week and pre-orders reached 200,000 several weeks ago.

I predict sales to be around 240,000 for the week.

But then again, it has some stiff competition from those other newly released games...

Well with 200k preorders and 300k units sold to retailers, it would be quite weird if it didn't sell.

EDIT: I'm slow :(

there is no way it could actually "bomb" like selling only 100,000-150,000 I think...

it could be a mild/good success (400,000-500,000) around the level of what Nintendogs has done, or it could be a dissappointment (250,000-350,000), but I see almost no chance of it bombing...

that said, it has the possibility of taking off to 700,000+ if it turns out to be a good game that has both a strong opening and great word of mouth... if it's not a good game then I expect something around the 300,000-400,000 range by the end of the year...

jss has had good previews, and large pre-orders, but pro-evo is a massive franchise.

i'm sure jss will do very well, but i don't think it will be a million seller.

maybe 500,000.

<200k for an entire week would be a dissapointment (imo)

Anyway, I remember sega saying 400k preorders for Mushiking and it just reached that number this week....

Btw, Namco gets the crazy predictions gold medal

Just some clarity for you guys on these numbers... from a business perspective. This is how I understand it from a sales standpoint, but I have never talked to the biz people where I work because they are in a seperate building.

When a publisher talks preorders, they are talking preorders to retailers. I have never heard of a publisher announcing consumer preorder numbers. However, the preorder to retailers is all that is really relevant in the Japanese market?

Why? Because there is no such thing as price protection/retailer returns here.

If Sega ships 400k of Mushiking, it means they sold 400k of Mushiking. Retailers may discount a game to move product, but they are not getting price protection from the publisher.

I think one or two publishers in Japan offer western style price protection, but I am not sure who.

It is nice to see consumer sell through numbers and see what is being bought on end retail, but for a company's bottom line, sales to distribution are what count.

Guh? Hasn't there been a Winning 11 on the PS2 and GC for quite a while now? Or was that a previous version?
They release upto 3 versions a year on the PS2. So it's somewhat shocking that at full price it hits between 400,000 - 1,000,000 in sales...

They tried it on Gamecube but I think it sold like 7,000 copies overall in Japan. It would have probably done better in Europe but Konami didn't even bother.

This year, WE8LE seems to have had relatively underwhelming sales. Either the franchise has gone down this year, or the Japanese don't want upgrades. Unless the online factor played a role...
