I can see the 9/16 Japan Daily Chart being something like this:

1. (GBA) Pokemon Emerald
2. (PS2) Biohazard Outbreak File 02
3. (GBA) Famicom Mini: Super Mario Brothers 2
4. (PS2) World Soccer Winning Eleven 8
5. (GBA) Super Mario Ball
6. (GBA) Final Fantasy I + II Advance
7. (GC) Paper Mario RPG
8. (GBA) Famicom Mini: Zelda II: Link no Bouken
9. (GBA) Power Pro Kun Pocket 1 + 2
10. (GBA) Densetsu no Starfi 3

Rearrange the order, take a few games in an out... heh.

If that were to happen, COOL!

Great September in the US + Great September in Japan + Animal Crossing in Europe = Nintendo resurgence

I'm hoping that Paper Mario 2 can at least maintain a presence on the daily charts in Japan until it is released over here in the states next month.

At least Paper Mario 2 is selling better than it's N64 counterpart.

No it isn't.

Broshnat said the N64 version according to MC did almost 700k. According to Famitsu, it did 426k.

This always used to be the case, especially with Nintendo games, seems to be much more consistent these days, although I still think Nintendo numbers are reported 10-15% low.

I'm personally sticking to this figure:

23 マリオストーリー 任天堂 N64 362,024 362,024 2000/08/11

well that would be it's famitsu total. I believe it's very much on the low side though...

550k at least really...

I could see a sales agency UNDER-reporting (since they can't cover every store and online retailer), but I can't see them over-reporting. Even if they "accidentally" (somehow) reported a few games twice, that won't make up for the many retailers they don't get sales data from.

Famitsu has screwed up lately. They had Famicom Mini: Super Mario Brothers 2 at 55K when M-Create and Dengeki had it at like 95K.

They did yes. Although their 2nd and 3rd week numbers were very similar to MC and Dengeki etc. It's odd, I wish I knew how it worked but it seems that the sampling methods used are a bit touch-and-go.

Media create were reporting very high numbers for N64 games in 2000 for some reason. I think they had Mario Tennis total on about 1.3m, Paper Mario at 700k, Zelda:Majora's Mask on about 930k.

The actual figure for Mario Tennis 64 is 1.1m, so I'd guess about 600k for Paper Mario and about 800k for Zelda: Majora's Mask.

For comparison, Famitsu has Mario Tennis on about 840k, Paper Mario on 360k and Zelda on 600k !!!

Don't take the numbers reported by these sources as gospel, especially with such discrepancies. At the very least, take an average...

Well, to use an extreme example...

If you just survey a certain kind of shop that sells mainly Nintendo games and factor this up to "represent" the whole market, you'd produce very high figures for Nintendo games since they actually sell the majority of their units compared to other games at these stores.

In fact, usually it's the other way round and Nintendo games are largely under-reported, especially in Japan although that seems to have improved a lot recently. Generally it seems that Famitsu posts lower first-weeks these days, yet tracks higher in the following weeks (especially, say 6 months down the line where it may report a game is still selling 4k and everywhere else says 1.5k etc), so totals tend to be pretty similar.
