Ooooookay so it looks like more and more people are over here, either for a long stay or a brief holiday.

So - how about meeting up?

Please post what dates are good with everyone and where are you based and when are you here?

Cheers,
dc

I'm all down for a meet up and maybe having a few drinks :)

I'll only be in the general Tokyo area for about two days for my job orientation for JET (and they take roll in the morning each day ^^; ), so afternoon or nights are the best.

Anyhow, I'm good July 26th/27th.

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
ha ha - well, i want to vet everyone to make sure they are house trained before opening the flood gates! ;)

Blackace

if you see me in a fight with a bear, don't help me fool, help the bear!
well you know I'm down... just weekends are not so great for me... =(

I'm here until?@July 24. I know next weekend I'm booked solid, but otherwise, most days I have at least some free time at some point. Tuesdays are especially good, since I have no class of any kind, and this weekend is a pretty lazy weekend too.

Oh yeah, I'm in Chiba Prefecture, so just count me in with the Tokyo crowd.

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
well, i'm off to buy PC parts with a few other people on sunday in Aki if anyone fancies a quick hook up.

... hardly the most exciting thing (watching other people buy PC stuff), but hey :)

Monday/Tuesday is good for me as well (as long as work is quiet)

I`m goosing it here in Nagoya at the moment. Gotta finalize some arrangements as to where I`m staying (since Blackace never responded to me ;p) so I`m tentatively planned to hang out in Tokyo next week from about the 8th to the 15th or so. I can probably do some arranging however since I`m leaving the 28th (IIRC)

TGS TGS I'm down to hook up at TGS

Yes!

I'll be there for sure. I've already got it planned to taking the 18000yen overnight 9 hour train from Hirosaki in Aomori -> Tokyo the friday night before TGS and then staying in a cheap hotel sat night and going back mid-day sunday since I can't miss work mon. Kinda a pain, but hey it's TGS so it's worth it :)

I wish I was staying long enough to go to TGS. The really sad thing is that I an typing as we speak only 5 minutes walk away from the convention center that TGS will be held at (Makuhari Messe).

:(

DCharlie

Go to Costco or whatever it is! ;)

If you find yourself in the Ebisu area, then that's where abouts i'm at (working hours)

Lyte Edge

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Bebpo where's your reply PM to me? :(

I'll be in Tokyo from the 21st to August 19th or so; would love to meet up with some people. I'm not much of a drinker (actually have a condition right now that makes alcohol a big no-no, but I'd love to come along on a drinking binge.), but I'm up for anything.

Rawr! I just might have to readjust my trip to Tokyo just to see Lyte Edge and beat him in the face! ;p

Well, I have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do tomorrow, and I will probably be free on Friday and maybe the afternoon/evening of this Saturday, if anyone is especially bored.

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
well, i got about 2 hours sleep again last night so i'm not really in any fit state to do anything tonight.

Where abouts would you be based at on friday?

I was just about to start a thread like this, thanks Dcharlie. I'm getting more organized now , as I actually got my passport stuff finished. I'm planning on being in japan for atleast 2 weeks in august, it coudl be the 16th to the 27th I think, but maybe a couple days more. It seems like a waste but I dont have hotel to worry about has the student/roomie in my house has parents who live in Tokyo. I thought the TGS was around the time I'd be there I'll have to go for atleast a day :D . I'd love to meet up with you guys when I'm there but I don't know how easy it'll be , my roomie mentioned something about going to Nagano to see his grandfather but he might do that before I get there.. lucky bastard gets to spend a week in new york and 3 weeks in Tokyo...

You guys should take some pictures of Engrish for me. That would make my day.
I've been taking pictures of silly shit all over the place. Captain Santa's in Aqua City Odaiba probably takes the cake for greatest concentration of hilarious shit so far. Well, that and the Statue of Liberty right next door.

This is a very silly place.

As of right now, no idea, but as far as I can tell I have no prior commitments for Friday (i.e. no class...unless somebody screwed up the schedule, which has happened before).

DCharlie

Okay - i work in Ebisu - which is pretty handy for Shibuya.
Not sure how many other GAF'ers can make it there...

is that anywhere near you?

Friday night meetings make eikaiwa teachers cry... *sniff*

... we'd still be out at 9:30 i'd have thought.

I'd do tonight, but i'm just toasted... falling asleep at my desk. :(

It's near enough. I'm in Chiba, so any location in Tokyo is something of a hike, but not so big that I don't make trips into the city multiple times per week. Shibuya would take somewhere around an hour to get to. No big deal, really.

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
well, anywhere is good - i can make it to Tokyo or Ueno which might be a bit more handier for you?

Akihabara by night? hmm....

Evilromero , you up for meeting up ???

When I get some vacation from work I'll let you guys know..should be soon, although I'm hopping over to Korea for part of it (gf want to do some shopping). What's a shinkansen ride from Osaka to Tokyo these days about 20,000 round trip?

Here's just one window display from Captain Santa's, which was like a whole "American" wing of the mall that basically revolved around a boating/surfer Santa and his two sailing reindeer.

And here is the aforementioned Statue of Liberty.

It was like 30 or 40,000 yen seven years ago, so I'd imagine it's at least that much now?

When I was in Japan last fall, Tokyo - Fukuoka was on for 15000, so I'd assume Tokyo- Osaka would be much cheaper. Actually, I went for two weeks and bought an unlimited rail pass for 500.00 Canadian, included riding the Shinkansen (which I did a bunch of times =P).

Love the trains!

Okay, putting some flesh on the meet up plan :

THIS FRIDAY
SHIBUYA HACHIKO - 6pm
failing that, THE HUB near HMV - 7pm on wards.

Shibuya - now the most obvious place to meet will be Hachiko (the statue of the dog) outside the station.

Now, my work is very unpredictable. I can be out at 5:30 (i'm on early coverage this week) but if something goes wrong i could well be here to something like 3-4 in the morning.

Plan would be to grab something to eat , go to an izakaya or something, and then head to somewhere like The Hub.

(Note to self and others : The Long Island Ice Teas here are not to be underestimated - i've made this error twice now. Drinking five half litre LIITs will lead to a black out - guaranteed (8 "generous" shots in each)).

Theres plenty of arcades around Shibuya - including a fairly grotty but cool 50 yen retro-y place.

So - who can make it ?

Troidal?
JohnTV?
MrSingh?
EvilRomero?
BlackAce?
MetatronM?

Sign up and i'll PM my keitai number (well... i'll mail it to those who don't have it)

I'll try! I can't say for sure yet though, as it depends on my school/work schedule. Please keep me updated on details. :)
