i'm guessing these are the old commercials for the Japanese energy drink. Japander's had them for a while as well. :/

i seem to remember reading they aired in the mid-nineties. i stumbled across a site with celebs in commercials for countries outside the US a few months back. Wish i bookmarked it.

Judging by the way the Arnold commercials are shot, the mid-90s seems about right. They're certainly not recent looking, by any means, even taking the weirdness factor into account. Japander's the only site I know offhand that has celebrities in commercials, but that's just Japan and you obviously know about it; Google should be able to turn something up fairly easily I imagine. The whole thing is terribly odd, as I still remember seeing Brad Pitt's mug on a coffee can drink sold in vending machines and Bill Murray doing god-knows-what on a beach for some bubble gum commercial when I was in Japan 5 years ago.
