alright so check it out. 21st birthday is coming up in 2 weeks. so my parents are buying me a plane ticket to anywhere in the world so long as i have a place to crash at.

so you guys know what im gonna ask. i'd like to go for 10 days or so. anyways, if i can crash at anyones place, i'd like, uh....i dunno. how do you thank someone for that without giving them head? i'd kick you down with some cash and food i guess.

in any case, uh, yeah, i guess i can't say i have high hopes for anyone being down with letting a stranger from a game message board chill at their place, but yeah. worth a shot i guess. mods, please, as a personal favor, would you guys mind leaving this thread here in hopes that it'll get read by more people.

You can stay in a gaijin hostel for just pennies a day! fenegi might know more about that than I do.

Also, you prolly don't want to come to Japan and stay in Gunma-ken. You'd spend more in train tickets getting to interesting places than you would on a hotel - plus the hours in transit. No offense meant to the fine people of Gunma-ken.
 
Just get the lonely planet guide and look up where the hostels or cheap minshuku are in the areas you want to go.

You'll meet people that are more interesting than GAF readers anyway.

thing is, most of my budget is gonna go to that $600 plane ticket. so i want to be able to check it all the cities. aside from actually just going, my second biggest reason for going is to take some pictures of the cities and sky scrappers. if the japan thing doesn't work out, New York it is.
 
Johnny Nighttrain, you should try posting in the lifestyle forum at www.tokyopia.com. They will be able to give you advice on where to stay, plus there's plenty of GAF people there.

The GAF "Japan Crew" I got to meet in Tokyo last summer were a great bunch of guys.

Gunma is the goddamn opposite of cities, it's the most rural prefecture in Japan (well, Aomori and Yamanashi are pretty close.)

Work out of Tokyo or Osaka as a cheap base. Osaka might be better; you could day trip to Kyoto, Hiroshima, Nagoya, etc.

I don´t think so, but it was in a party some days before TGS and I really didn´t feel like asking people there their names in forums (well I did once and failed, so after giving myself some mental punchs I didn´t it again).

ouch! what a shame :( I met Justin, John, Gregg (that I confused with Dylan from Tokyopia at first that is because I didn´t ask something like that again ;)) but I believe the rest of the people I met were not from any forum. Maybe I should have been less shy and ask John, but I didn´t want to disturb him too much.

I was kidding; no plans at this time. But I would love to go back...just don't know what the hell I'd do this time around if I went to Tokyo. :)

But I am hoping I will be living in Japan by September. I applied for the JET program; had the interview, now have to wait until April just to hear if I made it in, am an alternate, or didn't get picked. ARGH

Johnny, the big thing here, besides everyone not knowing you, is that living spaces in Tokyo tend to be on the small side. I felt like I was living in a CLOSET last summer. :) In 2001, I stayed at a friend's brother's apartment. There were four of us in there at night and it felt CRAMPED. If anyone else came over, there was barely any room for 7-8 people to sit in the same room comfortably!

anyways, i figured there was no hope on the message board thing, but it was definitely worth a shot though. im having some friends ask their ex girlfriends, and just other friends if i can crash, so hopefully one of those works.

but yeah, it's a free trip to japan so long as i have a place to stay. so im not gonna be giving up that easily.

how much do you guys think it would cost to go backpacking for a week?

I hope so! I´m having so many problems for going to E3... it´s being a nightmare. Freelancing is not funny for certain things. But Japan is more than just work, I will stay two weeks this year or will die in the intent.

I used to motivated myself reading Fenekku, but the traitor chose to have something to eat everyday and a nice apartment instead of staying on the sacred order of freelancers...

(by the way Fenegi, congratulations for your new work!, I think I had not the chance to told you ;))

update.

i have a friend that's willing to go on this Double Dragon Challenge with me. we're going to take advantage of those feature filled internet cafes, and we're bringing a tent, some sleeping bags, and our beautiful bicycles with us. we're gonna make it just fine.

alright, so i'll be there by the end of march worse case scenerio.

so who wants to chill? oh, and i appreciate everyones help.

I had the chance to meet again with John TV the next day with a couple of persons, maybe it was that day. But unfortunately I didn´t found a internet connected computer on time to check it.
