Quotes from Famitsu by way of IGN:

Konami: "We're very excited about the next generation Xbox. With Microsoft's great support system, we feel that it will be possible to realize involving network games and graphically intense entertainment titles. Konami plans on releasing titles in a number of genres that can be enjoyed on a worldwide basis."

Capcom: "The next generation Xbox has excellent graphics, sound and network capabilities that are easy [for creators] to use, and this makes it a dream machine for creators. So, what will we be making for this machine? You'll have to wait for the announcement."

Sega: "Just looking at the excellent specifications for the next generation Xbox, and we expect content that's remarkably evolved over the norm. We're already developing a number of titles. With Microsoft's cooperation, we're making strong titles which fully use the excellent abilities [of the system]."

Namco: "We expect the next generation Xbox to offer a market that appeals to game fans throughout the world. Namco is working to offer revolutionary titles for this next generation system."

Bandai: "We're happy to be taking part in the next generation Xbox. We hope to offer unique and exciting games as next generation Xbox titles."

Still no Squaresoft. E3 or bust.

Square is the deal breaker for me (not you), I'll buy that console which gets its support.

I have yet to hear a developer saying bad things about a system prior to its launch...Oh well, I still remember Kojima's comments about GC...but he changed his mind later.

I can only weep for the fate of the world.

Sega: "Just looking at the excellent specifications for the next generation Xbox, and we expect content (not from Sega) that's remarkably evolved over the norm which we failed to produce this gen. With Microsoft's cooperation, we're making strong titles which fully use the excellent abilities [of the system]. Our games will bomb but hey. We're still SEGA... ... oh..SEGASAMMY"

what did he say?

of course they'd all say nice things. That's the polite/right thing to do. Now about Lorne Lanning... :lol :lol

I think it was something about MGS never appearing on a Nintendo console because they were too kiddie or something. Not sure if it was before or after MGS:GB. But yeah, TTS happened anyway.

The only thing regarding Sega I'll say is that I hope they advertise their games next gen. Sonic will always do well, but Shenmue, Phantasy Star, and others could be pretty sizeable hits.

This PR is really uninspired :lol where are my PS2 style declarations? :D Lucas where are you?
Anyway the games that these developers are making for Xbox360 are the most important thing.

:lol I kept reading about Kojima saying he'd always wanted to work with Miyamoto. B4 or After? Konami has been pretty shocking on GC this gen anyhow.

Indeed. Declarations of support by pretty much nearly everyone is a diplomatic given pre-console launches. I want to see how that support materialises.

I'm somewhat hopeful of better Capcom support just from their quote, though, for some reason. "The announcement". Maybe I'm reading too much into it ;)

That drunk bastard!

GReat, hope to see some amazing Xbox Live support from these guys. Capcom, you better sort us out with Poerstone Online

bitwise said:
yeah. will we ever see another POwerstone?
Probably not. Capcom was planning to port PowerStone 2 to PS2 early on but canned it.... the series is probably dead now that Capcom's disinterested in fighters. :(

Sega: With Microsoft's cooperation, we're making strong titles which fully use the excellent abilities [of the system].

It's not so far-fetched. Panzer Dragoon Orta and Otogi 2 look better than 99% of Xbox's library.

Sega only published the Otogi games. They are developed by From Software.

Your point about PDO still stands, though.

Last I heard (mind you, it was a long time ago, around E3 last year) one big Xbox title developed by Amusement Vision (mostly ex Smilebit) had been shifted to Xbox 2. Lots could have happened since then, but I really really hope it's true.

I think the specific mention of network games from Konami and Capcom show that MS is bending over backwards to provide easy tools and great support in all aspects of prgramming for the 360 especially for network enabled games.

This is a GREAT thing becuase it's obvious from past history that Konami (Winning Eleven) and Capcom (Resident Evil Online) need all the help they can get. Plus I think MS is doing their best to take advantage of their software development expertise.

Yep, I really would like a RE4 or 5 port to the 360, but I'm not hopeful.

Panzer Dragoon Saga 2 I believe.

It's amazing to think what Microsoft's done with the first Xbox considering it didn't have a whole lot of Japanese publisher support. I'm beginning to think it won't matter how much Japanese support the 360 has. As long as it has EA, GTA and Tom Clancy, Microsoft will be fine. I suppose it'll matter *in Japan*, of course, but they're no longer the biggest games market.

I like how last gen, Tecmo attached their hooks to the Xbox and rode it to the top. It's too bad no other Japanese publishers took that opportunity.

:lol Sega tried.

If that's the case, Xbox360 here I come. I know some people were underwhelmed by Panzer Saga, and a ton of people know it only by reputation alone, but for me it's one of the few RPGs I've enjoyed (and the only one I've played twice, although KOTOR will join that eventually)... so I'm so in there for a sequel.

Square Enix: "Fuck Xbox 360 and that stupid name. Like, Final Fantasy 360, that would like totally confuse people..duuuh.. We'll stick with the PS3 and keep releasing our FFX-2's and countless 7's..."

Oh man if S-E announced 360 support... oh man that would be *CRAZY*. All I can say is that it's a *REAL* interesting time to be a gamer. And I'm still extremely anxious to see the Mist Walker games... but my main question is, will the American market who bought the Xbox in such sizable numbers be interested in these hypothetical Japanese games? (I know I would being that ~half of my Xbox library is Japanese)

Getting a next gen RPG out near launch would be a *MAJOR* coup for the 360 though, even in the States.

Bullcrap. Square-Enix has plenty of talent. If they'd just eliminate archaic game design elements like random battles and prerendered graphics, the company would improve tremendously. Bioware is great for interactive storytelling and customization, but Square's overwhelming style would surely help the Xbox. Granted, I don't much care for the 20 minute videos of some girl's magically particle-enhanced hair, but Square has its place.

I'm starting to see Japanese developers getting more ambitious after playing RE4. So this is somewhat good news. Somewhat, because this means jack shit really.

There's nothing to get excited about (not that that'll stop IGN) until we find out which games they're actually bringing to the system.

For example, Tales of Whateveria, Winning Eleven 9, Panzer Dragoon Saga II, Naruto and DMC4 are going to really help the 360 sell in Japan, while Dead To Rights III, Frogger Online, Crazy Taxi 4, Lumines and Dino Crisis 4 probably wouldn't have much effect anywhere.

Doesn't FFX and XII (and XI for that matter) have realtime backgrounds? I agree about the ATB system though, they really need to chuck that shit if they ever expect to regain my interest. I like turn based, just not ATB.

Most of the FFs (especially 5) have much more in the way of character customization than Jade Empire... (that's the only Bioware game I've played)... and while Jade Empire is a good game, I vastly prefer the menu-driven combat (Jade Empire's combat feels really slow and easy... I hardly have to use harmonic combos or explore it to any sort of intricacy). And I actually like random encounters for some reason. As long as you can run from them... I do like how Bioware treats the conversation aspect, it's fun actually getting to tell off annoying people... and would hope more Japanese RPGs selectively borrow the better parts of the Western ones.

One of my favorite RPGs of all time has to be Star Ocean 2. Had a fair amount of Western elements (its skills system and private action system) in a Japanese package.

They already have one from Mistwalker. From the father of Final Fantasy no less, and I heard Uematsu was doing the music too. Don't know if that last one is a rumor though.

There is no DMC4. And I don't recall any of those games being announced for development, let alone specifically for Xbox 360.

But then again I could be wrong, in which case spare me!

I don't know. I've heard a lot of the talent at old-skool Square are moving to Mistwalker...

Star Wars KOTOR has as much customization (if not more) than any Final Fantasy game. That's the other Bioware game I've played. I'm told that the Baldur's Gate series has far more.

Those statements are stupid.

Do you really think a developer would say: "The Xbox 360 isn't that great, but we're still creating some fantastic games for it in all kind of genres!"

I'm just giving examples of how the same publishers can give you good or crap line ups. I don't know if any of those games are in development for the 360, it doesn't really matter for the example.

I will second that hearing...because I heard the exact same thing!

Note that this article doesn't discern between "making games for the XBox2" and "exclusively making games for the XBox2".

Finally some common sense in this thread.

If Microsoft could get Square/Enix on board, I would buy an XboX 360. That's the only thing keeping me away from the system.
