Japanese UMDs out now.

My Spiderman 2 shipped yesterday, and I'm curious how good it'll look. I haven't seen the film either, so thats a bonus.

I've just noticed the UMD music/video discs. Can anyone recommend any of these? My wife likes old shit like Princess Princess/B'z/Yuming etc, so I don't know if these will appeal, but I'd like to try one. If nothing else, any cute girls in UMD quality on my screen would be nice :P

Only ones that are remotely good IMO are Mika Nakashima and Asian Kung-fu Generation. Possibly Sowelu too.

Why are the movies only in stereo? Where's this 7.1 we were promised?

how come? I have no idea what sort of music these are and I'm just as open to liking it myself.

I like pizzicato five and Globe - you know, the usual mainstream fluff that manages to get outside of Japan.
 
Yuki is half of the former rock group Judy and Mary. After they split, she decided she was Bjork. A lot of people can't deal with her voice, but I think she's totally awesome and definitely slightly more "offbeat" than most of the artists there.

Mika is jazz for the most part, and is quite godly to say the least. She makes crazily beautiful videos too (which is what the UMD is of).

Her voice is quite possibly the most nasal annoying sound on the planet. I want to either mock her vigourously or shoot myself everytime i hear it. If we could get her and Ohtsuka Ai in a room and gas them both, the world would be much better off.


The correct UMD choice is obviously Soul'd Out. Nothing is more unintentionally funny than any moment Diggy Mo has his mouth open.
 
Mika is like everything. She sings all kinds of songs. Jazz, R&B, Rock, Pop, Upbeat/Dance etc.
But the songs on this UMD it's more pop/jazz/dance
Yeah, her PV's and songs are awesome, esp. LEGEND and Hi no Tori that's on this UMD.
I will get the FILM LOTUS IV UMD, once I have my PSP.
 
Isn't YUKI the one that did that old video where all those characters are crawling all over her? I think it was called The End of Shite. Disturbing (but cool) little video it is.

Hmm.

I love 'odd' vocals in music, they are often like another instrument. But thats a bit annoying. She's almost flat in some places... more cyndi lauper than bjork - I love cyndi lauper but she's *just* on the right side of fucking annoying

anyone got any examples of Mika Hakashima or sowelu?

Like I said, a lot of people can't deal with her voice. I'm used to having my artists berated so nothing you can say at this point can hurt me.

As long as we're playing "your-music-sucks-more-than-mine," I can't fucking stand Mika Nakashima. I hate R&B, I don't like jazz, and her music combines all the worse qualities of both with the overproduced idolatry of the Japanese music industry.

I will, however, agree that Diggy Mo is one unintentionally funny bastard. He's basically Dizzee Rascal reimagined as a Japanese dork.
 
I loved, no, adored Judy and Mary, but I hate Yuki vehemently. She is not like Bjork, she is trying to be like Bjork. Unfortunately, without the rest of the band, her songs sound like someone stole the main melody. And I don't generally like Mika Nakashima, just a couple of songs like Legend and Hitori.

Since the first time I heard the Judy & Mary song used in Rurouni Kenshin's 1st OP I really enjoyed her singing. While I guess I could see how it could annoy people, I think it's neat because she doesn't sound like EVERY OTHER DAMN JPOP SINGER :P

It's been a LONG time since 7.1 was listed in a PSP spec doc. That basically existed in the initial specs announced @ E3 2003 and never made it on again.

A while back, I bought a Mika Nakashima album (her latest one probably) based mostly on how hot she looked, plus the song in the video was decent. Then I get the album and it's mostly boring bossa jazz stylings. Haven't listened to it since. :)

Fun fact, Yuki worked with Kate Pierson as well as a number of others in a supergroup called NiNa in 1999.
 
well hopefully my Spiderman2 will be here this week. After me and my friend have watched it, I don't mind posting it around a bit for others to have a look-see. at least while we wait for some good gravure stuff to come out.
