Jason Rubin headed to Microsoft??

"Sources at Naughty Dog confirm that Jak 3 might be the last iteration of the popular gaming franchise. Jason Rubin's departure from Naughty Dog isn't sitting too well with some members of the team who hinted that they might be following Rubin wherever he lands. The outspoken game developer and co-founder of Naughty Dog is striking out on his own and it seems as though many of the other members of the Naughty Dog dog pound are considering following him. But don't expect Rubin to make games for the PlayStation 3, rumor has it he and Microsoft executives have already done lunch!"

Interviews with Rubin after his departure from Naughty Dog already spelled out what he was interested in doing. He wasn't planning on simply developing for someone else or independently, he wanted pursue a different role in the industry. He wanted to work on getting more respect and attention for developers - get their names on the covers of the games. It wouldn't exactly be a surprise if he's visiting MS, and many other publishers, if that's still his aim.

Meh, more mediocre platformers on Xbox, as if there arent enough already in stores.

haha fucking xbots. Jak II might have sucked but Crash Team Racing, Crash Bandicoot III and Jak I are awesome games.

I forgot about Bandicoot but thats he doesnt have the rights to make that anymore, and i disagree on Jak, ive think they both were damn average.

What does/did Jason do at Naughty Dog?

IIRC he said he mostly does PR-work for ND and management(?). My memory does need to be refreshed though.

Thinking back to the things he has said about MS and Xbox, it would be extremely funny to see him working for MS.

I just wish he'd get with the Marble Madness III
Rubin didn't have anything to do with Marble Madness. You are thinking about Mark Cerny, who is working with ND and Insomniac on their games.

Mainly that, but also some programming. He worked on a particle engine for Jak 1 & 2.

Yeah, because every platformer on Xbox has around 9.0 average review score. Give me a break... Games that you are probably thinking about are not really in the same league with games that ND makes.

"Sources confirm"?? How about a damn every official interview made with them, that stated that exact thing? The storyline ends with Jak 3, and the future game might feature the same characters but would be something different.

Hey MS, don't hire this jack ass and his followers. The last good game they made was Crash Team Racing. Everything else has been mediocre crap.

would be interesting... could give MS the "mascots" they need...

+1 MS
-1 Sony
Dropped ball: Nintendo. would have filled the edgier platformer role that Rare had last gen.

but didn't he say that he wanted to be with nintendo?...
More or less....

He stated something in the line of... "he'd like to work wth a Nintendo franchise and if everything goes as planned, he soon would." At the time, everyone took it as a shot at Nintendo either being bought by Sony or goig 3rd party. A few months later, he announced that he was leaving ND, and the quote took on a whole new meaning.

I'm not a big JR fan, but his games sell well, all over the world. The guy can make games that make money. Whoever winds up with him is smart. He will help the bottomline.

Jason Rubin has lot of potential. It's cool if he's interested in MS. There still a lot of talent left at Naughty Dog though.

P.S. : Rubin didn't create Crash and Jak. He's just a lead designer/programmer IIRC.

Do mascots still sell consoles? I thought that went away during the SNES->PLaystation transition.

Jak I sucked. Jak II was good.

Xbox already has their mascot.

Jason has stated before that he thinks MS has the best chance to be #1 next generation.
Rubin has before laughed at a thought that Microsoft has a sliver of chance to overcome Sony in this game, and was quite grinny in couple interviews when he turned out to be quite right, and even repeated the sentiment for what is going on nowadays. Such new statement from him, if true, would be funny. So unless you have some source for it, I'd give it as much credibility as that made-up interview with him where he 'said' that Dreamcast is crap and some other silly stuff.

And what's YOUR opinion on this ? :P

You're better placed than Rubin to talk about this, no ?

This proves you have people writing with no experience in the industry. People from different companies have meals all of the time.

I heard that Rubin and Fries were gonna start a company named FreeLunch...

and their 1st game is a sandwich spelling simulator for the DS called MENuLIz3r!

Microsoft is paying - just ask Lorne and Tim! Lorne got salad - cuz he's weird but Tim got like a steak and lobster hoagie

PLUS dessert! since he's so hefty... I know all this.

omg all this time I thought Jason Rubin was the guy behind Marble Madness I (and II?). Good looking out, Element & Marconelly!

ps Supposedly some guy - who will be at California Extreme this year - has the only three roms of Marble Madness II in existance... and he refuses to dump them for MAME! Say what you will about emulation, but I think that's pretty shitty of the dude to hold on to something like that.
