"PLAYBOY: What is the best video game of all time?

CARMACK: The quintessential game that has influenced a lot of my game design is Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis. It's a really simple game: Go fast and be really cool. You don't need 20 little gadgets and gizmos."

Who would've thought?

That makes a whole hell of a lot of sense, considering how much depth ID's games have.

Theres not many tools on the old Genesis Sonic games. Pretty much just run and jump :) Thats why they are so addicting.

What the. The link leads to a single question taken from an excerp, linked to an interview with Dustin hoffman talking how he lost his virginity to his brother's girlfriend who was serciving guys who waited in line outside of the room, one after the other.

I clicked expecting the whole John Carmak interview! :lol

:lol Dustin Hoffman rocks!

The 2D Sonic series have been some of the best programming ever done on 16-bit consoles, so for it's no surprise.

Naka is a programming genius, and so is Carmack. Again, no surprise.

There were gizmos in Sonic 1. Spring boards and things to push. Sonic has a wonderful simplicity and excellent multipath level design. It is also a one button game which is certainly very impressive.

The artificial physics in the game were also superior to other platform games. You notice it when you play Sonic GG or Gameboy Advance. It feels dumbed down compared to Genny Sonics.

That is because the GCN nor the GBA have "Blast Processing"..... :lol

I didn't mention Gamecube, I said GG as in Game Gear. I'm sticking to Sonic 2D in this topic anyway. The Sonic 3D stuff is way too different to be part of this conversation.
