I just watched it tonight. Was really good action and some amazing cinemtography. You really need to suspend your beliefs and logic and just enjoy the action ride!

Just got back from it. Suspension of disbelief is required but man oh man it was outstanding. It has one of the best shot action sequences I've ever seen. No spoilers on it but if you've seen the film you'll know!

Donnie Yen was fantastic. He has an incredible on screen presence and his physicality is brilliant. The rest of the new characters were a welcome addition and expands the roster nicely.

My favorite part was when Warwick Davis made his cameo as Von Wickle in the post credits scene. He then kills five dogs to summon John for the next movie, says ‘How ‘Wick’ed’, looks at the camera, and cut to black.

i fucked around and got to Hollywood late, decided not to go into the movie late and bought another ticket for the next showing. glad i did, fantastic projection and great sound. really enjoyed the movie and as a vidya fan that shotgun scene 😍

Donnie Yen was excellent, Morpheus sucked again, if his character never existed i’d be fine… even Common’s shitty acting was alright for me in 2 but fuck The Bowery King heh. choreography, lighting and framing were excellent. i agree it was the best since the first. good time!

Saw it last night. It was orgastic. It felt like action perfection.

Netflix has them. Atleast in Europe.

Great movie. They really upped the choreography for this one and the action was fantastic. John still had like 10 lines through the whole thing, but that's fine.

Ending gave me similar vibes to this:

of course they had to have Donnie Yen a blind mofo just to make it that much cooler. Reeves is 58 but Yen is 59 and looks twice as agile. Enjoyed the mutual respect these guys had for each other. Scott Adkins reminded me of the legend Sammo Hung.

The movie is so good. Donnie Yen is so good in his blind swordsman role. Reeves is so good and so bad at acting at the same time :messenger_tears_of_joy:.
Watching it i caught myself wondering how magnificent would have been a Jackie Chan movie directed by (giga)chad Stahelski.
He can make crazy action so lucid, so understandable, i can't even begin to imagine what he could have done with Jackie and his stuntmen...

edit : imagine not imagnie

Going next week prolly to it. First week/premiere days are usually full of loud and retarded people. Also prolly gonna go to a private/vip screening with friends where theres rarely anyone there.
Once it arrives on either Amazon then r Netflix. I will watch it.

Definitely. Keanu is 58 years old and still bringing it, too, with long continuous action sequences in full view.
Yeh credit to him. I know he takes that stuff seriously and it shows that he put in the work. There's a real weight to the fight scenes so not only is what they're doing impressive on an athletic/technical level but it feels like it has impact as well.

Not sure if we're going full spoilers here yet so I'll tag this
That overhead shot during one of the Paris fight scenes was so well done and made it feel like a game. Hotline Miami was the one that came to mind for me but apparently it was inspired by one called Hong Kong Massacre.

I also loved how they fully went for it with John falling all the way back down the stairs at Sacre Coeur. There's a slapstick element to these films that could be tricky to pull of tonally since in-universe everything is so serious but they strike that balance so well.

"The fourquel, which was released this past Friday, March 24, has so far made $73.5 million in the US and $64 million worldwide, adding up to a total of $137.5 million.

The franchise's last installment, 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum opened to $56.8 million, so Chapter 4's box office performance is a vast improvement on that."

So Tom Cruise and Keanu and gang (and James Cameron) have saved cinemas? Can they all team up for John Wick 5 then?

The bad thing about it is that they're all still the old guard. The two last movie stars (Cruise, Reeves), and talent from the Matrix in the 90s (Stahalski?), and one of the last 3 major 80s directors (Scott, Spielberg, Cameron).

It's great to see the resurgence, but the future is still uncertain.

That's true. It's like these guys HAD to come back because they saw that no one had shown up to fill their shoes and felt it was their duty to deliver for a little while longer.

At least, that's the cheesy way I like to look at it :)

I'll watch it at some point but I don't get the hard on for Keanu Reeves. He just turns up and plays Keanu Reeves and then the internet goes bananas. I did like the first two movies but chapter 3 bored me to death.

He doesn't just show up. Most blockbuster action movies are CG and steroids, meanwhile he's putting in serious work to become John Wick.

I can't imagine walking out of a John Wick movie feeling bored. Everyone's taste is subjective and all, and there are definitely issues with all 4 films, but bored?

If you watch it more for John Wick and less for Keanu you'll be good. Chapter 4 does all the work anyway, the dialogue just ushers you from fight scene to fight scene, no lingering.

I think he's talking more about Keanu's emotion in the dialogue than his commitment or physical performance. Or, that stuck out to me anyway

He has that deadpan, almost start stop speech pattern that just takes you out of it. Chapter 4 has insane range of accents and passionate deliveries from fishbourne, skarsgard, donnie yen, lance reddick, and the rest of the cast, but whenever keanu's on screen it's just ... keanu.
Massive respect to him and his physical performance, but you have to admit that aspect of his acting can take you out of it.

I really liked this even though it required the most suspension of disbelief among the 4 to really enjoy. You just have to assume that Donnie Yen is kinda like Daredevil who has radar sense. And that for some reason bad guys only attack Wick in waves of 2 or 3 at a time at most.

Either way, he went out on his own terms. Seems kinda silly he did all of the 4 movies worth for his own freedom only to die after achieving his goal, but at least it was what he wanted for himself. Western movies don't really do that type of character well, so it was nice to see.

Now watch us both be wrong and the death was a fakeout and we'll see him again in John Wick 6.

Good lord I hope not.
Just let the Keanu storyline die. They're doing Ballerina and Continental spinoffs, I'm a big fan of leaving the world there, but just not more Wick. His story is done. I see what you're saying, but I think it was a perfect ending. Everyone kept telling him he can't change, he's always gonna be John Wick. He can't be free, etc. The truth is he WAS. He DID change. And it was taken from him. When he lost his wife (and then obviously the dog), he lost his reason to be anything other than John Wick. That's why he wanted his epitaph to be 'Loving Husband' -- after the conversation with Winston about how could a few words sum up a life. Charon was a "friend above all else" -- John was a loving husband above all else. That was his 'freedom' and he lost it. Again, I personally found that ending to be perfect for him.

I really enjoyed the movie. Saw it last night and thought it was a fun ride. The sequence in Berlin is straight out of the hitman games. And the long take with the incendiary rounds was a thing of beauty. Whoever made this movie plays video games and knows how to translate the same images and feelings to the screen.

Saw this last Friday and what a fucking ride!! Donnie was soooo smooth! Dude still got it and to see him and Hiroyuki battle it out was a treat. Lance's screen time was a shame considering this was his last role. The videogame scene kicked ass with the incediary rounds. Also loved seeing Keanu go ham with the 'chucks.

Excited that this was so successful that ilwe might still get one more!! Hopefully they keep going as there's no action franchise quite like John Wick!!

Reddick's role is not quite finished. They're in post-production on the film Ballerina. I doubt it will release this year but it's an in-between which covers the events between John 3 & 4. Reddick and all the others were filmed in that prior to his death. That will likely be the last great John Wick related role we see him in...if it ends up being great.

Oh nice thanks! I can't wait for all the spin offs!!!

I saw it last night and enjoyed it, but still like 1 and 2 better i think.

The action set pieces are amazing, but some really strain believability (even by John Wick standards) in service of looking cool. I'm talking mostly about the lack of reaction by civilians to straight chaos happening right in front of them.

On the contrary I saw that to be perfect if you see John Wick as a film with games mechanics. The NPC that do not react until they have to do for plot reasons. The enemies that are just by their ability to move known as such. Loved it. I think that you speak of
the scene in the nightclub? there the civilians do not react at the beginning but do it slowly, in phases.

I also liked the amount of big stocky dudes in this movie. Lots of wide shoulders of guys that spend time in the gym now put in suits to get killed by Wick and friends.

2 will always be special in that its the only one where you see Wick working again as a hitman. The gun shop scene is still my favorite in the whole series.

Never watched one of these movies, but gonna start with this one. Kermode said it was entertaining and he had a lot of fun with it, so I'll give it a shot. And I'm guessing it's not one of those series where I need to know the backstory.
