[JPN] FFXII - release on March 16, 2006

Geezus. This better be one of THE best FF's, with us having to wait so long. I hope they're taking that loing because they're making it real in depth and not because they have to restructure the game.

More like Q1 2007. Takes them atleast a year to translate... may get it in time for Holidays 2006 though, but I'm not holding my breath.

Eh didnt know...I'm lazy to sift through that long ass thread. Might as well make a new thread for the easy-readers.

They won't miss Holiday 2006 for US. They'll have a nice set of people translating for sure. Otherwise the sales potential will be diminished the further out into the next-gen we go, and SquareEnix realizes this. Investment too big. Definitely fall 2006, me thinks.

We'll see it around October/November, methinks. Still fucked up, though.

So how long has FXII been in developement for?

Havn't played a final fantasy game since nine, but is FXII likely to be on a par with Final 7 from what people have seen so far? (Gameplay/story wise. I know the graphics are hot.)

May as well just release it for PS3. :lol I'm not too pissed. I understand it's been awhile, but I'd rather have them just keep working on it until it's good rather than rush it.

rushing it would have been releasing it in the summer or autumn of 2002.

The game, upon release next spring, will be goddamn near 2 years after it's initially planned summer 2004 release.

The game has been in production (including pre-production) for over 4 years. Upon it's release, it will have been 5 years. In the span of 5 years, Kitase and Co. were able to make: FFVII (1997), FFVIII(1999), and FFX(2001). Not to mention FFIX was made and released within those 5 years, as well. That's 4 quality games in almost the same timespan it's taken FFXII to complete production and be released.

I'm a FF fanboy... but even I won't defend this production schedule. Unless this is a 150 hour story on 2 DVDs, with multiple worlds and each world being roughly the size of FFX's world, I simply would not understand why this has taken so long. [/end ranting]

liar. ff10 was a popstar game

And this is why I havn't laid out forty notes for it yet...:)

There's as many haters as there are lovers.. Just out of interest, what are your guys fav Final? Might shed some light on it ..

Buy FFX. It's a universally acclaimed game that is easily one of the best RPGs this gen. At the very worst you'll be out 20 bucks. At the best, you'll love it just like most people (who are fans of RPGs).

March 2006 only because Winter 2005 is taken by KH2, Summer 2005 by Grandia 3, and Autumn 2005 by Advent Children and Code Age Commanders.

If you ask me, there's nothing strange about a March 16, 2006 release date.

Depending on what you like about the other FF's, may determine how well you may receive FF10. Personally, I called it every negative name in the book, dismissed the Sphere Grid completely, and said FF is finished. After borrowing a PS2 and the game, I found it to be an enjoyable game, so much so that I did most of the extra sidequests twice for other people just to borrow a PS2 and try the game again, and eventually got the (IMO) even better International version (which had absolutely no reason not to become the Greatest Hits version).

Try going into which ones you prefer, and what you liked/disliked about them and you may get some other/extended viewpoints.

But you may want to make it a new topic?

For two years of delays, there'd better not be a single item cut from the game. That or Fran gives me great head. Either way.

Speaking of FFX, I thought it was ok. Didn't bother with the sidequests, the lack of an overworld pissed me the fuck off, and it was otherwise tremendously easy. But most of the game had good looks and sounds, and combat was decently quick. Oh and Biltzball is among the biggest loaves of shit ever made.

Actually I was thinking of a game to get once I trade in the games I have now so I'll probably just do that.
Is it as big/epic as previous finals? Something about it having speech and 3d levels makes me forsee a 20 hour game.

But you may want to make it a new topic?
Us juniors don't have that right. We have the right to comply. I mean reply. :)

If you like FF for what it's become... high budget, excellent presentation, relatively solid, if not revolutionary gameplay, along with some power gaming (towards the end sections only though for FFX) and a bit of a confusing story that needs some amount of post analysis, then FFX carries on the FF tradition swimmingly.

I liked it for what it is... even if I had misgivings about a few things, including the fruitiest airship to ever grace a FF game, really lame character designs, lack of world map and what not.

And the Xbox 360 can now claim a port of the newest Final Fantasy, with a possible drought before anything that actually beats it.

Sales + 250,000! :lol

Maybe I should buy XI if I get a 360... but I'm sure people will wait for XII. Square-Enix has to know that potential buyers will wait as long as Square wants, and XII will attack the gaming world at a time of Square's choosing.

Some games take longer to make than others. It's not the end of the world, guys.

While this may be disappointing to some, and probably to SE as it will probably somewhat negatively affect it's sales, maybe, in many ways this is great news for the PS2.

This holiday season is already stacked with Kingdom Hearts 2, Dragon Quest VIII, Grandia 3, Shadow of the Collossus, Genji, SOCOM 3, Winning Eleven 9, Resident Evil 4, and so many others.

This puts yet another huge title out there for 2006, giving the PS2 another boost next holiday season = more sales. I think that we'll see quite a lot of high profile exclusive games still hit the PS2 in 2006 and a few in 2007. Developers cannot make any more money than they can on the PS2.

It costs less than next gen from a development standpoint, by a huge margin, it has a monster installed base that will have a ton of new consumers at each new price point that hits (I'd say $129 this holiday), and still has some life in it from a development standpoint (that is, games can still get somewhat better).
